Self-styled paramount chief high priest of the Nyan-Ko-Pong Maroons, Horace ‘L.A.’ Lewis is now free after he was granted $30,000 bail in his own surety when he appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court today.

Lewis, who appeared on a bench warrant, was offered bail by parish court Judge Monique Harrison.

Surprised by cops as he distributed food to the homeless and indigent in the Old Capital, Lewis was held in the town centre in Spanish Town on Sunday and the bench warrant executed on him at the Spanish Town Police Station.

L.A. Lewis said he plans to fight the charges.

“At the end of the day, we never commit no act as the video is out there for the whole world to see. the people are under pressure from the scam-demic event, plus the Maroon government are taking back a lot of people, we have registered over a million people. We’re going to fight the charges, it’s government against government right now,” L.A. Lewis told DancehallMag.

He is scheduled to return to court on Wednesday, September 7, when the matter will again be mentioned.

His co-accused are also expected to reappear in court on the same day.

They are charged with breaches of the Disaster Risk Management Act.

“We’re not going to back down or else our Maroon government will look weak,” he said.

He labelled his arrest as an act of kidnapping. Lewis is before the court in relation to an incident last October where he was held by the police for breaches of COVID-19 protocols.

He attended court on two occasions and failed to return thereafter, resulting in the court issuing a bench warrant for his arrest.
