Dancehall artist Caano has been picking up steam ever since a video of him spitting the lyrics to his Bankrobber and Polo Shorts song inside a mechanic shop went viral in May 2020. Since then the upcoming artist has caught the attention of many, including most recently Dancehall heavyweight Lady Saw, who is now gospel musician Marion Hall.

Hall has said in no uncertain terms that she’s impressed with Caano’s level of skill and would even consider doing a collaboration with him.  However, there is a but.

The Tun Back Christians singer said that in order for her and Caano to make music in the studio together, he first needs to come over to the “right side”, making reference to Christianity.

“I was just looking through my Facebook, and saw you. At first I thought you were Beenie Man when he was younger. Then you start knock out the beat, and I was like WOW!!!!!. I am a Christian, but I had was to stop and listen, cause you pull attention,” Hall said on Friday (June 25) as she got wind of Caano’s viral video.

“Without the expletives, I would do a song with you about coming into the kingdom of God, and out of sin. What I’m saying is. You too good to be ova deh suh. Come ova yah suh… You can stay right there in dancehall and do it, just like you doing it now. See you when God ready to pull you by his spirit. Love you, ” added Hall.

Caano appears to be first on the agenda, after Hall declared late last year that she would be ‘re-visiting’ Dancehall in order to “win some souls”. Weeks later, she clarified that she was not returning to Dancehall but will be “releasing a Dancehall album”.

The artist responded to Hall’s comments in an Instagram post yesterday and wrote: “Bless up to minister marion hall for the great nuff love an respect goes to u.”

Who Is Caano?

Caano, a former contestant in the popular Jamaican competition Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall, told DancehallMag, in an interview last year, that his love of English Literature while a student at the Jose Marte High School transcends to this day, as he uses the style of creative writing to make lyrically sound music.  At the time, he said he had hopes of collaborating with Vybz Kartel.

DancehallMag reached out to disc jokey Neako Fire, who originally shared the clip of Caano, which subsequently went viral.  Neako Fire shared that the video was shot at a body shop in Spanish Town where Caano was employed.

Fire said the artist is not currently signed to a label, but is working alongside Yaad of Fame Music.

You Said You Love Me, the second song performed in the viral video, is still unreleased.  However, the Spanish Town native has released Missed Called, Make Me Feel and Inside Her.

His latest track is Banga Phone.
