His lyrical potency caught the ears and eyes of hundreds of thousands recently when a video shared on social media went viral.

Dancehall fans speculated that the shirtless man with ungroomed hair was mentally ill or homeless, but recording artiste Caano, with his continuous show of talent, has proven to be nothing short of lyrically hardcore.

The musical genius is not new to the scene, as he told DancehallMag that music has been influencing his life for as long as he can remember.

“My mother used to sing and we had a grey Ford and every Sunday we use to go out and she use to put me on the back fi DJ , but it was mostly Christian music at the time though,” he said.

A former contestant in the popular Jamaican competition Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall, Caano said he never expected to grow a fan base so quickly but he is grateful.

“I dropped out of the competition early not because of a lack of talent but because of low votes…Some persons remember me from that competition and when the video went viral even more people became aware of me. The reason I actually looked that way in the video was because I was actually working and I didn’t even know that video would take off and be shared like that. If had known, I would a look better” said the artiste while laughing.

“The day the video went up, after a few hours, I got so many calls. At one point it got over 200,000 views… couldn’t believe,” he added.

The artiste, who has been recording for the past five years, said his love of English Literature while a student at the Jose Marte High School transcends to this day, as he uses the style of creative writing to make lyrically sound music.

“My style is crossover music. Trap, Dancehall, Afrobeat all infused…”

He said Bank Robber & Polo Shorts is now his biggest song to date and the support and love he has received is overwhelming.

“I have three songs out not…We have a lot of projects in the pipeline and I am actually now working on Bank Robber Part 2 as well, You Said You Love Me is another song and Cheater will drop in two weeks,” Caano said.

“I want to be a household name in Dancehall. I want to be one of those artiste that bring the music to all points of the world Loving the music, being in the music, is what inspires my drive and that will never stop.”

The artiste is hoping he can one day collaborate with Dancehall Legend Vybz Kartel.
