Skillibeng was forced to pull his music video for Chappa Gyal, after its directors were slapped with an order to edit out a building of the H&L Rapid True Value company, a subsidiary of Grace, from the production.

According to The Star tabloid, lawyers from the law firm Levy and Cheeks which represented H&L, handed Skilli’s producers a cease and desist letter, taking issue with how the establishment was misappropriated.

The building, which was featured at the beginning of the music video, was renamed Skillimoney Headquarters and was depicted as being used as a fictional ‘scamming base’.

In the lyrics of the track, which also features Dancehall artist Honey Milan, the two talk about scamming and outline how they carry out their illegal activities.

But according to the attorneys, Skilli’s video not only infringed on trademark and copyright, but was also a “deliberate attempt to take advantage of the reputation and goodwill which has developed and presently exists in the ‘H&L’ and ‘Rapid True Value’ trademark, trade dress and get-up”.

The letter also outlined that H&L does not endorse scamming and did not grant anyone affiliated with Skillibeng’s video permission to use its trademark.

“The video has since been re-uploaded minus the H&L building. But before the adjustments were made, the song had amassed half a million views and was trending at number three on the local YouTube chart,” the Star noted.

Over on the Yo artiste’s YouTube channel, where the edited video was reloaded, Skilli’s fans cheered him on and said they were impressed with the content.

Others like Khing Cam sought to explain why the original video had been removed and encouraged other fans to get back on track.

“The reupload is to protect against copyright trademark and lawsuits some major companies reached out and request to have it taken down let’s get this back on track they can’t stop greatness!!!! Let’s goooooooooooooo,” he wrote.

“Damn, original video was popping too…Hope y’all don’t make that mistake twice, juss blur all brands in the future,” Statiic Entertainment advised.
