Amid concerns that Jamaica’s entertainment industry will not bounce back until next year, Billboard Selector Boom Boom says he will be flying to the UK as soon as its borders are fully reopened and will not return to his home country anytime soon.

“Yuh know seh England a open di 21st a June though, yu seet?  And mi have roun 16 show a England right now enuh.   And rite yah suh as mi a talk to yuh mi a pray to Faada God fi meck dah woman yah (COVID) behave harself enuh an uh badda meck England lock dung.  Mi just waan guh do mi concert dem Missa Milla,” Boom Boom said during an interview on Television Jamaica’s The Entertainment Report with Anthony Miller.

“Sixteen show.  An if Jamaica nuh open back fi di summa, mi naw come back.  Mi a tell yuh right now Missa Milla.  Mi not coming back till Jamaica open up,” he declared.

“Das why I tell yuh earlier on seh mi haffi teck di vaccine but mi naw tell nobaddy fi teck di vaccine.  Dem people yah wi interpret tings and turn run tings and splice up tings and den yuh guh hear mi now pon all YouTube ting seh Boom Boom seh oonu fi teck vaccine.  No.  Me a teck di vaccine.  Mi naw tell yuh fi teck di vaccine,” he added.

Boom Boom said he has lost a lot of money having had to refund promoters who had booked him for overseas shows, adding that in the past he would fly out of the island religiously every weekend, to select at overseas parties.

“To tell yuh di truth Missa Milla, mi a look pon next year dem time yah.  It rough.  Nuff a wi nave no income, while nuff a wi still have a income… Mi siddung yah suh right now, you wouda neva like know weh mi guh through enuh,” he said.

“Whole heap a money wi haffi refund; mi fans dem all over di world waan si mi and caan si mi.  Mi jus haffi hold it and know seh a part a life.  God nuh gi a man more dan weh him can bear.

The Grants Pen native said while he was being squeezed hard financially due to the lockdown, he and other selectors have resorted to using the internet to keep virtual parties.

“Yuh have whole heap a DJ weh still do di ting inside, pon di live pon Instagram  and di people dem still tune in.  Di ting still a happen; artiste still a buss; song still a buss; riddim still a buss,” he said.

“It will neva be di same, cause outside yuh have a big impact… when wi deh inside wi jus a lok pon a phone, but at di end a di day, wi still haffi do wha wi haffi do,” the BMW producer said.

Boom Boom said donations made from his virtual shows – Boom Sundays, Uptown Mondays and Boasty Tuesdays are used to buy food to provide care packages for persons who are suffering.

However, he lambasted members of the entertainment fraternity, whom he said, have not been helping the less fortunate, and doing nothing to help their communities in trying and stressful times where many are hungry, the exceptions being himself, Bounty Killer, Romeich, and DJ Lava who is domiciled overseas,.

“Nuff a dem naw help out.  Nuff a dem not doing nothing.   In a time like dis when yuh a do good tings, yuh haffi bring it to di forefront mek di people dem si seh yuh a do tings…Nuff a di big names, producers, deejays, nuff a dem man dem not doing nothing man… cause if dem did a do something wi woulda see it pon social media.  Yuh si weh mi a seh?” he said.

“Mi naw si nobaddy a talk bout seh: ‘dah man deh a do care package fi dah community deh’.   Is a handful a people mi si a dweet from last year till now, an mi can call name: Bounty Foundation, World Team – DJ Lava a help out to, and Romeich.  More time when wi a walk an a gi weh di bag dem, di amount thanks weh people g iwi.

He added: A wah day a hundred an seventy-odd thousand wi gi weh.  Wid $3000 inna di envelope $5,000, $1000.   Di amount a thanks people tell wi.  An memba seh wi nuh reach out to nobaddy and get no sponsor enuh.”

Boom Boom is not the first entertainer to accuse Dancehall artistes of being stingy and tightfisted.

In February, Fire King artiste Fantan Mojah has accused the upcoming new artistes as being mean and selfish during an Entertainment Report interview.

“Di yute dem weh bus nowadays, dem naw gi nobaddy nuttn at all.  Dem naw gi di yute dem inna di ghetto nuttn at all.  Dem hide from di yute dem by di way, if yuh neva know… Dem mean.  And dem know inna demself she dem mean,” Fantan had said.
