Mrs. Theresa Wilson Palmer, the mother of incarcerated Dancehall deejay, Vybz Kartel celebrated her birthday over the Easter holiday weekend at a close-knit gathering.

Kartel took the opportunity yesterday to show his mom, affectionately known as Mrs. P, some love on Instagram. “Happy Birthday🎀🎁🎊🎉🎈 To My Mother,🤱🏾 My Boss , 👸🏿My General ,👩🏾‍✈️My Don! 🧎🏾‍♂️More Life & Prosperity Mommy❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Love You Forever & Beyond.🥂🍾Cheers To You🍹🍸,” Kartel wrote in the caption of a photo, which sees a hearty and healthful looking Mrs. P standing in a festive, white and gold themed backdrop and donning a white embroidered dress with gold accents.

It’s no secret the Worl’ Boss has a strong bond with his mother, throughout his incarceration she has been very vocal about what she believes is her son’s innocence.

Mrs. P insists her son, Adidja Azim Palmer is a good person and was no way responsible for the death of Clive “Lizard” Williams, who he was found guilty of murdering in 2014 and was subsequently, dealt a life sentence.

Even Kartel’s sister, Maureen Nelson, who is the vice-principal of a high school in Portmore, St Catherine, has attested to her brother’s character. She said her brother and her two other siblings grew up in a good home where discipline and education were instilled by their parents.

“They used to call us ‘grille up’ because when other children were outside running up and down we had to look out from behind the grille. Our father knew the importance of education and we grew up sheltered,” Nelson said when she appeared in the Home Circuit Court in 2014 to give character evidence on behalf of her accused brother.

In 2017, Mrs. P would go and visit Kartel at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) during a temporary prison release to undergo treatment for an apparent kidney-related ailment. It had been 6 years since she saw her son at the time due to his previous arrest in 2011 for marijuana possession and later conspiracy to murder charges for the murder of a Jamaican businessman, Barrington Burton.

According to sources, Vybz Kartel and his mother were overwhelmed with tears and emotion when they finally saw each other after so many years.

“[Vybz Kartel] seeing his mother for the first time since being locked up really helped his spirits. Fi tell yuh the truth dem couldn’t help but bawl… but then dem start smile/laugh when dem start talk bout the good days… Kartel is very confident now and is motivated than ever before,” the source said.

Later in a 2018 documentary interview, Mrs. P said that she loves her son despite what critics and the media say about him. “I am Vybz Kartel’s mother. Nothing didn’t change me from him and I love him still, even sometimes when people talk things, I know nothing don’t go like how they talk it,” she said.

Her support has remained resilient despite what the public has had to say regarding the influence his music has on Jamaica’s crime rate, “[Kartel] music alone and him alone could not change Jamaica,” she said. A resonating testimony to stand the test of time, especially with the recent accusations by the Jamaican Prime Minister regarding the contribution of violent lyrics to the levels of crime on the island.

Though some of his music might be the scorn of the policymakers, a select few have been poignant dedications to Mrs. Palmer. Thank You Mama, Mother’s Love, Open Up Di Door, Mother Nature, My Mama, and several other Mother’s Day songs all praise the woman the Worl’ Boss calls his boss, his general, and don.

His IG share has receives salutes and birthday wishes for Mrs. P from more than 2k of his fans and friends and amassed over 80k likes. Among those are industry colleagues, Lisa Hyper, Baby Cham, Savage Savo, Lisa Mercedez, Shawn Storm, Bobby Konders, and several others.
