After the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled his plans to make a debut appearance in the UK last year, Dancehall star Daddy1 immediately began to put things in place to connect with his fans even as the world went under lockdown.

Now, he is continuing that media marketing initiative by teaming up with BBC1xtra disc jockey DJ Kenny Allstar on  a show dubbed – interestingly enough – “Global Shutdown”.

“I have been focusing on the internal aspects of my business during the pandemic…registering businesses and trademarks, and getting my team ready for when the borders open back. I’ve also been working hard in the studio,” Daddy1 told DancehallMag.

DJ Kenny Allstar’s Global Shutdown with Daddy1 is scheduled to be aired on April 2nd at 21:00-23:00 UK Time.

Now with a fully operational label, “BroGad 6ixx Ent”, that has secured mainstream distribution with Ditto UK, his sights are set on international aspirations, yet still staying true to Jamaica that has produced such a young, formidable talent.

“Transcending current lockdown rules his first stop is the UK and what better way to kick it off then a freestyle with BBC 1xtra, “Voice of the streets”, DJ Kenny Allstar? DJ Kenny Allstar currently holds the reputation as the voice of the UK streets, and his support will be vital in starting to grow Daddy1’s popularity in the UK,”  Jacob Creed, Music Consultant of Creed Music Global, confirmed in a released.

It is a perfect introduction to a new audience and equally for them to hear a new pioneering sound, “Dancehall Trap”, he added.

DJ Kenny Allstar’s latest show the “Global Shutdown” is an innovative spin on tapping into new markets and sounds whilst allowing artists from around the world the opportunity to access and platform their music at top tier level through the BBC. The show is produced in three parts – The Freestyle, A Visual Cypher – shot by Jamaican cinematographer Damaniac – and an interview.

The activation which was curated by UK based music consultancy, Creed Music Global, will secure Daddy1 as the first artist representing Jamaica and Dancehall.

“Daddy1 is one of the freshest and exciting Dancehall Trap artists coming out of JA, it was a no brainer getting him on Global shutdown,” DJ Kenny Allstar said enthusiastically.

Daddy1’s freestyle is set on a Drill-inspired beat that was created specifically for the “Global Shutdown” by Artist/Producer Blizzi; grandson of the late great Toots Hibbert of Toots & The Maytals.

Kenny Allstar has been controlling the Friday night rap show on BBC Radio 1Xtra for almost four years. In February 2020 His rap show was certified by RAJAR as the radio show with the highest number of young listeners (15+) across the whole of the BBC.

As well as being one of the most popular DJ’s on the circuit, Kenny Allstar is also the founder of ‘Mad about bars’, the online freestyle series showcasing some of the U.Ks most groundbreaking rappers. A phenomenal gatekeeper and groundbreaker Kenny Allstar, has provided a launch pad for many underground acts. The most notable success being MOBO award 2016 winner and his works with UK artists Abra cadabra, M Huncho, Unknown T, and Dig Dat to name a few.

Having recently secured his Silver Creator Award from YouTube, Daddy1 is currently working on a series of “BroGad Freestyles” set to be released exclusively to his channel. He has more recently secured activations with Wray & Nephew UK – and at time of press is scheduled to do an exclusive interview with TV and Radio presenter for Apple Music and MTV UK, Becca D for her online platform, “Deadly Official”.
