Dancehall artist Rytikal was denied bail when he appeared in the Gun Court via Zoom this morning.

The entertainer was remanded for trial on March 24. He is represented by attorney-at-law Able-Don Foote.

The 25-year-old deejay, whose real name Ryan McFarlane, is charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

According to police reports, on January 28, police were on patrol in Eight Miles, Bull Bay, St Andrew when McFarlane was reportedly seen acting in a suspicious manner.  Police reportedly questioned the artiste and following a search of his car, a Taurus .380 pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition were found.

Rytikal, who reportedly told the police that the weapon was a prop for a music video, was taken into custody and later charged.

The rising star is best known for being a part of the Eastsyde Records camp with Skillibeng, and has released hit songs such Cookie Jar, King Inna WarGalaxy Brain, and My World.

One week before his arrest, Rytikal was critical of the recent upsurge in violence in Jamaica.  “I do really violent music and mi ah tell yu, mi feel a way with some of the things mi a hear more time, homeless people ah get chop up, old people ah get shot, the savagery of the violence really tun up…is like it a get worse bredda, is a new low the man dem ah carry it to,” he told DancehallMag while promoting a planned mixtape.

The entertainer was the fourth Dancehall deejay to be charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in four months.
