Jamaican songbird Jaz Elise has dropped visuals for her single Good Over Evil, her first new production since officially joining Protoje’s In.Digg.Nation Collective-RCA Records partnership.  The new single comes ahead of the rising star’s 7-track debut EP, titled The Golden Hour, which will be released next month.

The track, released today, is produced by Protoje, who makes a brief cameo in the visuals and Grammy-nominated duo Natural High.  The duo comprises producer Jordan “Tall Man” Armond and engineer Blaise “Binghi” Davis, whose previous work includes songs like Chronixx‘s Black Is Beautiful and Protoje & Lila Iké‘s In Bloom.

Good Over Evil blends traditional, pulsating reggae/dancehall instrumentals and jazz tones with Jaz’s smooth vocals which tell the story of her journey as an artist. “It’s good over evil, life over death // Elevate to higher heights, Mi believe inna mi self,” Jaz sings in the chorus to highlight her drive and determination.

“I’ve had to be strong like many people that look like me,” Elize said about her new track. “The song is just a note to keep going and remain focused no matter what. At the core, it says all things lead with good intentions, burn evil and to speak life.”

Jaz takes on several looks in the Yoram Savion-directed video, which follows her from golden hour shots on rooftops, to a beach bonfire and a studio session.    On the video’s production, she said, “it was a very small team of people that were involved in the accomplishment of this song and video and we wanted it to feel really honest and organic – so me and a couple of my friends just came together to hold a vibe and a likkle energy.”

The Golden Hour EP

Good Over Evil will appear with her previously released remix of Fresh and Clean with Dancehall artist Govana, on the 7-track The Golden Hour EP which is expected on March 5, 2021 under In.Digg.Nation Collective/Six Course Music/RCA.

“She delivers breezy confident melodies on the self-loving opener Elevated, the instantly contagious anthem Radio,” a release notes.

“The latter part of the EP is filled with slow burns, allowing her soft sultry vocals and honest songwriting to float over spacious and thoughtful instrumentation. After 3 is a cosmic exchange between her and rising singer Reggae artist Mortimer, and Breathe soothes the soul over light jazz and dub grooves.”

Jaz’s previous records include For You (2018), and the title track Rock and Groove (2019) on In.Digg’s Rock and Grove Riddim.
