Less than a month after saying she’d release an EP on Valentine’s Day, Dancehall entertainer Jada Kingdom has announced that she may not be able to release new music in 2021.

The genre-bending artiste shared the news on Instagram Live today, and chalked it up to the lack of a good team.

“I don’t think I’m going to be able to release any music this year but if I do you guys will definitely know of course because I’m going to announce it,” she said. “I’m trying to just figure out mi space inna di industry and I can’t do it alone. I’m tired… Me and Verse (Simmonds) right now trying to work on my team, management and all of that…”

Simmonds, her Atlanta-based producer boyfriend, has been heavily involved in her music production over the past year, as well as helping her network in the North American music market. The Green Dreams artist has been struggling to build a team for some time now, making it known that she has earned her popularity and success by being independent.

As she opened up about her plight, she denied that the news is a stunt or prank, and added that “industry politics” have also played a role.

“I’m really sorry guys but it’s deeper than just me,” she said. “I don’t think you guys really understand when I say, ‘Yow, I don’t have a team’… The EP done, everything ready, but is a lot of politics a gwaan, a lot of f**kery a gwaan, it deeper than just music. It’s also music business and because a dat mi haffi wait so hopefully by summer mi can drop some music but if not, then next year. Mi hope unno stick around.”

She added that she is also conflicted about her original artist brand and goals.

“Me feel kinda off-balanced. When mi just start mi career mi feel like mi did know weh mi did a go… Since recently, mi nah go lie to unno, I don’t know where I’m going. Mi feel like everything just shaky, nothing nuh clear, everything a fall a part and right now mi a try figure out mi team and set di ting di right way so right now mi just a lay low likkle bit and just a put een more work. You’d be surprised how much songs mi have siddung pon but mi still a put een more work cause dem must release one day.”

Until then, Kingdom will maintain her fanbase with upcoming visuals of her most recent releases including Trix. She’ll also be hosting a meet-and-greet in Kingston and Montego Bay soon, and said she will also be doing live shows.

Jada Kingdom‘s announcement comes off the heels of her biggest year yet, thanks to the viral success of her motivational record, WiN. Just as the track acknowledges the power of prayer, Kingdom asked fans to keep her in their prayers.

“I’m trying my best, I feel like I’m this close to giving up but mi a try same way… Pray for mi, pray fi mi career and pray fi dah year yah.”

She finds comfort in her entrepreneurial spirit, having two businesses under her belt – a thrift shop and her Jadur Kastel swimsuit line.

“I always try to find different avenues… Mi a hustler, me a entrepreneur and mi always think like that just in case weh mi really, really waan do nuh work out mi can fall back pon something else cause at the end of the day mi can only do so much, especially pon mi own.”
