Creators of the Verzuz Battle series, Swizz Beatz & Timbaland have conclusively revealed their all-time favorite performance in season one of the series. It just so happens that the two award-winning record producers have chosen the same duo as what they’ve described as the “the best” players.

Who would have thought that faithful day on May 23, 2020, right here in Jamrock, would have procreated the ultimate stars of Verzuz and these would be none other than Beenie Man and Bounty Killer.

This comes as no big surprise; the two Dancehall artistes stirred quite a buzz in the aftermath of their performance on Verzuz, racking up the best single-day streaming for the year 2020 according to data from Nielsen Music/MRC and led the Billboard polls for best Verzuz Battle by a huge margin at the time.

Now, with Verzuz having recently hit the pause button on in-person clashes, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland took a moment to sit down with the host of the Carlos Watson Show to reflect on the outcomes and highlights of Verzuz, their favorite battle, the potential future line-up, plus more.

Getting right into it, Carlos asked about their favorite performance and who they considered was the “star of season one.” Swizz handed the question over to Timbaland, who at first seemed apprehensive to answer but eventually mused with his thoughts a bit.

“The best?” Timbaland pondered aloud, then at a moment’s passing said, “I would say Beenie Man gave the best performance.” Swizz Beatz agreed, adding, “Beenie and Bounty Killer, yes.”… though the clip cut off before the two could elaborate further.

In another segment of the interview, Carlos asked whether or not they could disclose any potential details about the second season, particularly which artistes they’d like to see take on the battle.

“I don’t have a wishlist because we don’t force nothing on Verzuz,” explains Tim. “Everything comes to us. I want to show the world about love, slow-songs, that feel good music that touch your soul. I was thinking about Anita Baker, and I was like — man, we have to give Anita her flowers.”

It’s safe to say, fans can expect to see a lot more R&B match-ups throughout the ongoing second season of Verzuz. On that note, look out for Ashanti and Keyshia Cole’s Verzuz battle, which has recently been postponed — so keep an eye out for the official date.
