Dancehall songstress Shenseea’s mettle has been tested throughout this atypical year, and she recently checked in with fans for a bright 2021 forecast that included the revelation that female Dancehall acts in Jamaica don’t want to work with her on new music.

Hopping on Instagram Live in her usual fan-centric fashion two days ago, Shenseea touched on her career, her upcoming album, and love life, but raised a few eyebrows when she revealed she had been snubbed for collabs by fellow Jamaican stars.

“It’s not that I don’t try to do collabs you know especially with Jamaican artists, is just dem nuh waah do none wid me. Really and truly. I mean my manager [Romeich Major] has reached out to a lot of females.. Dem nuh waah do nuh song wid mi so wah me fi do?” she said in response to a fan question about why she has not done many collaborations.

The revelation comes after spiritual advisor Nardo ‘RT Boss’ Smith claimed that he had instructed his former friend, Spice to deny Major’s request for a collaboration with Shenseea some years ago.

“Romeich ask fi a collab from Shenseea and all now Spice can’t give Shenseea. Me never approve that, me never think it fit fi do the collab,” Smith claimed during one of his Instagram Live sessions in mid-December as he feuded with Spice.

“Me loyal to the game, me say you no suppose to give her no collab…because at the time it didn’t make no sense,” he added.

New Album

Never one to let setbacks slow her roll, however, Shenseea has plans to drop her album as soon as March and travel “everyweh when di lockdown done”. She’s got a sharp focus for 2021, and is actually glad to be single so she can fully dedicate herself to her craft.

“I don’t have a love life and I actually like it like that right now. Nobody fi nag mi, watch pon social media, I’m at peace right now and I love it.”

The singjay described the first Christmas without her doting mom as “chill”, but any of her 2.3 million followers would describe her work ethic as anything but that. The canny, tenacious songstress closes out 2020 with quite a few notable highs, such as her successful venture into the cosmetics industry, and her feature on the viral hit song Lighter by Tarrus Riley, which is a strong contender for song of the year.

What’s next for the ‘autonomous rebel’? More work, more money moves, and her much-anticipated debut LP.

“I can’t wait to release some more music for you guys, I am bored!” Shenseea told her fans, citing the quarantine conditions hampering her efforts. She’s already proven her influencer status, dominating everything from endorsement deals to viral challenges, but music remains her core joy.

“One of the key things that makes me happy is when I release a song,  you guys take the time to learn it, sing it back with attitude, the feeling, the emotion everything. That really, truly shows that you guys really enjoy my music.” She gladly reassured her Shenyengs, “I don’t [even] think I’m at the top of my career yet, so that’s why I’m still working.”

A few who were curious as to what sonic surprises await on the upcoming album were left guessing.

“You’ll just have to wait and see,” she teased, though she did welcome collaboration suggestions. Many poured in, with the Blessed star agreeing she’d be glad to work with several including Rihanna, Megan Thee Stallion, Mary J Blige, Moyann, and Kenyan musician Tanasha Donna

Love Life

Of course, the ‘ask-me-anything’ session wouldn’t be complete without a few wild requests and fans wanted the tea on her relationship status too. When quizzed on whether she’ll be having more kids, Shenseea confessed she initially wanted to have three more.

As a tomboy herself, she wanted three boys and a girl but is now only planning for a future ‘Rajeesha’. Alluding to her bad luck with relationships, she’s decided to have “one more [child] and just settle it”.

“I’m not having three baby daddies,” she said “and to di way how di world a run right now you really can’t have high expectations of men these days. If me find a husband husband, I’m definitely gonna go for the three.”

An excited fan, or potential suitor, still wanted to know how soon that would be, so the singer’s aunt (off camera) provided a hilarious timeline — “When God get a second son.”
