The tight-knit sound system community is mourning the death of one of their more popular figures, Courtney ‘Likkle Wicked’ Boyd of the Wicked Machine sound system.

He reportedly died on Wednesday night after suffering a massive stroke.

“Mi tek this one hard, right now, mi ah talk, water full up mi eye dem,” an emotionally distraught Ricky Trooper, a famed sound system selector, told DancehallMag.

Courtney Boyd, who was reportedly in his early 40s, was diabetic and hypertensive and had suffered a stroke last week, before the final coup de grace on Wednesday night.

Boyd is survived by two daughters.

Ricky Trooper said that ‘Likkle Wicked’ – despite his ghoulish nom de guerre —  was a really kind and reliable and inspirational individual – a real stand-up guy.

“Mi and him a par from 4 by 4 Exodus, after him lef, me give him a sound name Delta Force and him launch it to the world. Is a youth who is a motivator, I was doing a Boom clash series , from mi tek the date, me and him a run up and down fi get dubs, and whenever mi feel down and don’t have no vibes, him always say we ah go win. Is a man who believed that no obstacles were too great to overcome, he had a real positiveness about him,” Trooper said.

He spoke of Little Wicked’s singular kindness.

“What me memba most of all, he is kind. Anything he has and you want it, he will give you and do without. He is a kind person, mi remember one time, mi on Kilimanjaro sound and Buju just open Cellblock with Sil, and I needed some dubplate. Buju tell say him studio new and him want  an amplifier and mi check Wicked and him tell . And him just go inna him house and tek out his new amplifier and give me and say ‘gwaan go get the song from Buju’,” Trooper recalled.

Trooper said that Little Wicked loved the “sound business”.

“Him have nice ways, from mi know him a play 4 by 4 Exodus, him used to deh a studio everyday, mi no have nothing bad fi say, him love music and love sound system business. Him no reach where him fi reach, him love the music more than the money,” he concluded.

IRIE FM disc jockey DJ Smurf, another close friend of Little Wicked, was both shocked and saddened by the selector’s passing.

“Ah mi real real friend like that, from last night mi feel hurt, this one lick close to home. Just this week, I bigged him up on the radio and say speedy recovery on the stroke he got last week. He got discharged Tuesday evening and he got the next one yesterday evening and he passed away in the hospital,” DJ Smurf said.

“This one rough mi bredrin.”
