There’s no slowing what is now looking like a pretty prolific year for Gargamel. The Reggae protagonist, Buju Banton has debuted a fresh new sonant on his previously released track, dubbed Buried Alive (Acoustic) from his Upside Down 2020 album.

On piano assisted lento-paced acoustics and the backup of a small choir, Banton burrows deep down to croon some sorrow-stricken vocals to communicate the beholden message in the song. Buried Alive is a reminisced story of his incarceration. He describes his time in lockup as feeling “buried alive” and rejoices on making it through. “I was buried alive but I’m still breathing. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring but I got a feeling. Oh I am alive there must be a reason, I was given one more chance, my heart is still beating,” he sings on the hook.

Compared to the original version, the updated acoustics have a slower tempo and mics a much more passionate and emotional Buju. It’s a great rendition and exhibits the Reggae singer as a real perfectionist tweaking his craft.

The 47-year old icon, né Mark Myrie, is gearing up for another big release from his album. The single, Cherry Pie, composed with legendary producer/singer, Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes is also slated to hit the airwaves soon.

Speaking of big-shot producers, we know Banton was visited by American rapper and record producer, Kanye West last month when photos of them both appeared on social media alongside co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, Kareem “Biggs” Burke at Gargamel Studios in Kingston, a clear indication that something is also brewing there.

With his recent collab with Koffee on her Pressure Remix, locking in votes and garnering the attention of the Recording Academy ‘for their consideration’ in securing a spot in the 2021 Grammy nominations, Gargamel is certainly keeping super busy these days.

The new Buried Alive (Acoustics) went on streaming today, Thursday 10/22, as an Amazon Original song exclusively available via Amazon Music. The original version of the track was a hit on his recent album Upside Down 2020, which climbed to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart subsequently upon its release in June. Buju will also be performing live on Amazon’s Twitch Channel with a selection of songs and to answer fan questions.
