Kanye West Is In Jamaica, Links With Buju Banton In Studio
American rapper Kanye West has been spotted in Jamaica.
The Grammy award-winning singer shared a photo of himself today with Reggae and Dancehall veteran Buju Banton. The artistes appear seated at Banton’s Gargamel Recording Studio in casual conversation as Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Kareem “Biggs” Burke looks on.
Sources say, West was also earlier spotted at the popular Plantation Smoke House in Richmond, St. Ann.
Kanye captioned the photo with Banton and Biggs, “Greatness in the making,” signaling that we can probably expect new music to forward from this surprise visit to the island.
Brooklyn-based rapper Saint Jhn also shared a photo from the same studio with Banton and Kanye today. Jhn, who is of Guyanese descent, is best known for songs such as Roses and Brown Skin Girl with Beyonce.
He captioned an Instagram post, “Hey guys, 🤔 how bout we do Guyana next time🤗 just an idea. ok cool bye.”

Meanwhile, Kanye in recent days has been lashing out at the music industry, promising to not release any new music until he was freed from his current recording contracts. “I’m not putting no more music out till I’m done with my contract with Sony and Universal,” West tweeted on Monday.
“On God … in Jesus name … come and get me.”
In a show of protest, the rapper, who has spoken publicly about living with bipolar disorder, posted a video of someone urinating on one of his 21 Grammy Awards before sharing hundreds of pages from his confidential recording contracts on Wednesday. The acts were part of an effort to make his case in a fight over ownership of his master recordings.
“I need every lawyer in the world to look at these,” he told his Twitter followers while referring to “the music industry and the NBA” as “modern day slave ships” in a subsequent tweet this earlier week.
He followed up with a call for Black Americans to claim power and self-ownership.
The tweetstorm eventually resulted in a brief 12-hour ban by Twitter after the personal information of two journalists was revealed during the tirade.
Kanye was last in Jamaica for his Sunday Service concert on October 18, 2019, at Kingston’s Emancipation Park. He was supported by a choir, with about 120 people, TMZ reported.
American rapper Dave East is also in Jamaica this week. He linked with Dancehall superstar Popcaan, as the two artists shot a video for their Unruly collab at several locations around the island.
