Uncut Diamond is the latest riddim to be released by music producer Sajay.

He believes that the riddim is versatile enough to accommodate any style presented by an artiste. The riddim currently showcases Jamaican dancehall deejay Ch4se, whose track on the project rhythm is titled I’ll Save My Love and Kenyan singer Cathy Matete whose track is called Shine Your Light.

“I have known Ch4se for years and Cathy, I have been talking to over the Internet. Ch4se was on the riddim first, I was working on an EP for him then I decided to put her [Cathy Matete] on the riddim,” Sajay expressed to the Jamaica Observer.

Sajay’s Uncut Diamond riddim was released in May 2020 as a feature on his Sajay Productions imprint, which he says is a blend of  “lovers rock with a bit of pop flavour”.

Sajay whose given name is Roymane Alexander introduced his label in early 2000, which carries on the legacy of his uncle, Henry “Junjo” Lawes. The United Kingdom-based label is a descendant of Volcano Records, which was headed by Lawes.

Early on, a representative of Sajay Productions had said to The Gleaner that the label was “aiming to rewrite history,” and the production “made over some of the classic old rhythms that were made by ‘Jungo’ back in the day.”

Sajay’s uncle was an influential producer that made his mark in the 1980s, and he was instrumental in developing his talent. Lawes was murdered in London in 1999 but his influence remains in Sajay’s sound.

Sajay Productions’ first produced the Quicky Riddim, featuring Anthony B, George Nooks, Luciano, Sizzla, and Turbulence. The label served as executive producer on ‘The Journey,’ Turbulence’s successful album. Other works by Sajay productions include the ‘Love Alone’ rhythm that featured big local artistes like Turbulence, Perfect, and Lutan Fire, and others, the ‘Rainfall Riddim,’ which featured Bugle, Vybrant, plus more, the ‘Holding Firm Riddim,’ the Breadwinner Riddim, released recently, and Diseases Rebirth – a redo of the Diseases Riddim.

Sajay Productions produce a diverse style of music that comprises, reggae, dancehall, fusion, and roots-reggae.

Sajay has no plans of slowing down with projects in the pipeline. The producer noted to the Jamaica Observer, “Going forward, even more high-quality productions can be expected from Sajay Productions. One such project is the Black Vein Riddim slated to be released this month. This riddim will feature artistes such as Kabaka Pyramid, Dwayne Stephenson, Bugle, Lutan Fyah, Ch4se, and Cathy Matete. Production is also continuing on Ch4se’s forthcoming EP, which already has three completed songs so far.”

Sajay’s Uncut Diamond Riddim is available for purchase and streaming on Spotify and Apple Music, as well as other digital platforms.
