With hit songs by artists like Shabba Ranks, Everton Blender, Garnett Silk, Buju Banton, and Super Cat, the 1990s was a period when Dancehall music was on fire. At the forefront for some of the greatest hits of the golden age of dancehall music was a young audio engineer Jason Bromfield. It was not only the artists that thrived during this period but engineers and producers as well.

Bromfield is set to officially launch his Open Doors Recording Studio in Orlando in late September.

“My vision was to always have my own studio, it really didn’t matter to me how big or small it was. My goal was always to deliver the best music, I am grateful to the Almighty that my dreams are finally being fulfilled….Open Doors Recording Studio will deliver the best in music production to every artiste.” Bromfield told the Jamaica Observer.

Bromfield worked as an apprentice in Black Scorpio Studio in Kingston, then moved to Junior Reid’s JR Production, before joining Penthouse Records – home to the likes of Wayne Wonder, Beres Hammond, and Marcia Griffiths – in the early 90s during its emerging period.

Later, Bromfield spent a significant portion of his career with Startrail Records studio in Kingston, headed by Richard Bell, where he was among the key players that helped to develop the sound of artists, like Anthony B (Raid The Barn and Mister Heartless) Norris Man (Bright Days), and Everton Blender (Family Man).

“I was inspired by Bobby Digital and he got a great influence on me up till this day,” Bromfield told Penthouse Records of which engineers work inspired and influenced him. Still, Bell was an influential force in his career as an engineer and Bromfield considers his time spent at Startrail to be most fulfilling.

Bromfield told the Observer, “Richard Bell from Startrail Records literally birthed me in the music industry. I can go on and on about my experience with Richard Bell because I give him the utmost respect, he is my personal mentor until this day.”

Orlando appears prime for Bromfield to launch is recording studio.

The city has an understated reggae scene, which makes it suitable for Bromfield to take root and thrive. Bromfield continues, “I did a little research and realized reggae music doesn’t have a road here. With my experience and God-given talent, I envision the success of Open Doors Recording Studio.”

Bromfield is originally from Spanish Town and spent his formative years in Drewsland. He has resided in Orlando since 2008. Not only will Bromfield be officially launching Open Doors Recording Studio later this month, but he will also be debuting as a producer.
