Legendary reggae singer Bunny Wailer is not dead despite persistent social media reports. In fact, according to his management team, he’s on the mend and well on his way to recovery.

His manager, Maxine Stowe, told The Gleaner yesterday evening, August 3 that she can confirm that Wailer is alive and well. “The rumour was spreading like wildfire that Jah B had died. Fortunately, that is not so. He is alive and recovering,” Stowe said.

About two weeks ago, Wailer, who is 73-years-old, was hospitalized for issues and complications related to a stroke that he suffered in October 2018. “We are actively transforming the outpouring of interest into prayers for his recovery and strength for the families. We are inspiring those standing with him at this time to be extra vigilant,” Stowe added.

She also said that the singer might be able to leave the hospital later this week as the rehabilitation team and resources have been made available for him.

Stowe also spoke with Loop Jamaica about Wailer’s progress.

“He had a stroke two Mondays ago, but he stabilised over a week ago, and this morning I was making preparations for his transition to a rehab facility. He’s passed the worst effects of the stroke, and is now moving towards physical therapy,” she added.

She believes that the rumours may have been started because of how distraught Wailer is over the fact that his wife Jean Watt, also fondly known as Sister Jean, suddenly went missing earlier this year in May.

“We appreciate that there is concern that the dealing with the ambiguous loss of partner Jean Watt, who has been missing since May, may have been overwhelming… Some feel it is too much, but he is withstanding it, his faith in Rastafari is what he is standing on at this time. He is fighting the good fight,” she said.

Stowe also explained that this was the second stroke that Wailer had suffered in two years.

“The first one was more ambulatory, but this one has affected his left side. It’s a different balancing act, but his other signs are stable. Whatever happened with the brain has been addressed, the doctors have removed issues that caused the stroke, and we are confident he will recover, we just want to put the news out for prayers towards his recovery,” she continued.

She also added that she remains optimistic about his recovery.

“After the first one in 2018, we moved quickly, and with neuroplasticity, we saw great results and how much the brain can heal itself, given the chance. We’ve experienced the healing process before and we are confident he can do it with the right support. He has access to the best doctors and therapists that we have known over the past year,” Stowe revealed.
