D’Angel Takes New Comedic Persona ‘Ashley’ For A Drive

It seems as if Dancehall artiste D’Angel is taking another try at comedy. This time she takes on the persona of ‘Ashley’.

Ashley would probably be the Jamaican equivalent of an American valley girl – affluent but often perceived as obnoxious, materialistic, and air-headed.

In the first of two videos posted on her Instagram page,  Ashley is seen getting ready to do a drive out in her community. Here she is introduced as the prim and proper uptown girl who is quite overdressed for a simple community drive out.

In the second video, Ashley is seen happily singing incorrect lyrics to Vannessa Carlton’s A Thousand Miles.

Upon reaching a zinc section of the community, she assumes she has a flat tire and proceeded to make a call to her ‘daddy,’ seeking help. After he revealed that he is unavailable, she gives directives to Amazon Alexa, who she refers to as Alexia, to fix the said tire. This was an unsuccessful attempt, so she finally decided to do it herself because “the best help you get is from yourself guys.”

In the trunk of her car, she finds a broom, a duster, a spray bottle, clothespins, and several other unnecessary items. She calls her dad again, who revealed that the tires are run flat. Ultimately nothing was wrong.  She then went inside the car and continued singing the song with inaccurate lyrics.

The videos are another attempt at comedy by D’Angel. In May, she played “Pamela Houston,” an unsuccessful news anchor who eventually got fired for refusing to read a coronavirus news story.

Her Ashley videos have gotten up to 38,000 views and are a clear hit with her fans, the majority of them expressing appreciation for this different form of entertainment.

Comments like “yuh have many sides to yuh mama,” “you’re hilarious,” “this have a buzz,” “love it, Ashley, talent at its best,” “multi talented! tell Ashley to call Pamela.”

D’Angel is known for popular songs like Stress Free, Mind Yuh Business, and Stronger.
