Daddy1 Is The “1 Bro Gad”
Of dancehall’s new promising line up, Daddy1 has displayed the most impressive influence and his latest release from VP Records, aptly titled 1 Bro Gad is an exclamation at the end of his amateur run. This 6 song EP has solidified Daddy1 as a certified musical threat in dancehall music.
Rich, the first single from 1 Bro Gad, is a core element of the EP. This song in many ways, helps to form the foundation or the spirit in which this EP and much of Daddy1’s music was made.
For someone from humble beginnings like the 22-year-old Salt Spring native, wealth is the most immediate and arguably the most effective tool for social mobility. We now live in a world where the promise of our generation has been thwarted by a society that is shifter ever closer to capitalist extremism. Power often shifts in favor of opulence, especially in a place like Jamaica, which usually means corporations. Daddy1 is a strong proponent of financial freedom as a way to level and balance these shifts in power where the people become subject to corporations or bigger countries with wealth.
His release of the official music video for this single in March this year reinforces this philosophy. Watch it below.
Drops is the second track on the EP and it comes in flaming with a cadence that inspires raving. This is a song you can see yourself partying to in the dancehall, whenever the next one is of course.
Pretty Pon Snap is rumored to be the next music video release, but this is the track that the ladies are guaranteed to go crazy about. It also adds a nice punctuation to the EP as the third track.
Our Time serves as the manifesto on this EP, where the deejay leaves it all on the track and lets us know that this is the era of Daddy1.
Live Life To The Fullest is the motivation we all need in the midst of this global pandemic. With death lurking around every corner, it’s a call to embrace the life we have by accepting mortality.

The EP is a solid 19:54 seconds of pure, high voltage dancehall that’s bound to blow up as a patient audience awaits their trending king. It manages to achieve a balance in a coherent succinct way.
