The dancehall community has been shaken yet again by another death; popular Jamaican dancer Labba Labba has passed away yesterday Monday, July 6th 2020.

According to sources the senior passed away quietly at home succumbing to a long-standing illness. The nature of his death became of great concern to residents in his neighbourhood and many in the dancehall world due to a highly publicised controversy some two years ago involving dancehall legend Beenie Man.

In August 2018, Labba Labba mysteriously went missing from his home in Trench Town and was even rumoured to be dead as many of his key belongings were still left at his house. Suspicions grew among everyone, especially that his disappearance came a short time after Labba made some grave claims that he had inside knowledge surrounding the murder of fellow dancer Gerald ‘Bogle’ Levy.

The entertainer implicated Beenie Man in a video that went viral, suggesting that the deejay had put a hit on Bogle. His statements stirred so much attention on social media that Beenie Man went on a TV interview with Winford Williams on Onstage a few days later to refute the allegations.

Subsequently, Labba resurfaced on the scene and in doing so, sent a message to his fans that he was alive and well, but needed to retreat from the spotlight for a bit. He also released an apology to the King of Dancehall and said that he was intoxicated when he named the artiste as the man responsible for Bogle’s death, and didn’t anticipate the implications.

Even though the hatchet was buried and all has been forgotten, Labba Labba’s death has again awakened eerie suspicions. Beenie Man’s name is once again on the tips of many tongues and some are even speculating that an act of obeah (similar to black magic) has played a part in the entertainer’s passing.

However, community members insist that the beloved dancer died peacefully at his residence; of course, an autopsy is pending.

Labba Labba was responsible for many iconic dance moves in the early 2000’s including the popular ‘Signal The Plane.’ He has worked closely and toured with the likes of Beenie Man, Elephant Man and Bogle. Elephant’s single Pon Di River lyrics mention the dancer in the verse, “Labba Labba say him a get old and cyan bodda.”

In his last days, close friends of the famed entertainer said he was always jovial despite his misfortunes with his illness and finances; playing the lottery and cash pot was his favourite past time.
