Chronic Law

Chronic Law must have reflected on his recent single Cry Tears to conclude that murders and wars have lasted so many years, it seems there is no end in sight. And if we thought his words were light, the recent violent attack and murder on law enforcers in the old capital, sends a resounding confirmation.

The recorded lyrical content is testament to the fact that the point being made in the June 6, 2020 release of Chronic Law’s new single entitled ‘No Ending’, was not vain exploitation. Instead, the new Markland Records single is a true representation of what is obtained in the realities currently documented in history.

In the utmost realism, the Law Boss sings about turf wars and community violence that is a rooted staple in the garrison locations of the island.  Painting a picture of a young man with no choice but to be armed and ready to protect himself against attacks whenever he crossed turf lines to get supplies from the shop. As a child, he was flowing with the tide of community violence not knowing for what reason or when it would ever end.

The ‘No Love’ singjay recalls not doing the regular games of marbles and football, but being recruited by a one-legged don to be an officer in the local gang. As the years passed, he has experienced many tumultuous times and seen many like himself has lose their lives, though he is aware that deep down no one wants to die.

The song details his rise to become the force in the community, but the violent ways of communicating persist with slight resistance being meted out with a puff chest or box down.

The artistic show in the video production captures archetypical scenes of his journey. He is seen in the first instance (young boy) rolling with his crew, then later as an adult rolling with an entourage of adult men, then finally (as an adult) as the leader of the gang, heading out with many little youths to form the next generation that will continue the war.

Law again reminisces about the lost lives that promised to be different or better than their demise. In a bewildering melody, he continues to sing, “War aint got no ending… get family an fren kill, each year a di same ting… God know nuff good yute mi si gone an cyaa come back now, walk pan a bad road, war cyaa stop no…war aint got no ending”

It seems the storyline will never change, soon writers will fail of vain repetition and print will all say the same. But, really when will it ever end? A question asked in song by many artiste who have died, and no doubt by many more who are alive.
