With schools in Jamaica closed for two weeks, the Queen of the Dancehall Spice has decided to take her two kids and leave the island over Coronavirus fears. Jamaica has so far reported just 8 cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Rolling singer took to her Instagram page to share photos and videos of herself and kids – Nicholas and Nicholatoy, as they arrived at a Atlanta, Georgia airport. “Government says no school in 14 days so i’m taking my babies with me so i can protect them,” she said in the caption of the post which has received over 113,000 likes on the social network.

In one photo, the family is seen taking all precautions with face masks, gloves and hand sanitizers. “My daughter is also protecting her doll from the virus,” Spice says of Nicholatoy’s keenness to also protect what looks like her favorite toy.

The singer finishes her post by urging her 2.5 million fans to “be safe guys, stock up on food and water.”

spice-kidsWhile most fans wished the dancehall queen safe travels and protection in return, some suggested that the airport is the worse place to go since the virus has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) this week.

One Instagram fan wrote “Love seeing you with your kids. Best protection is not travelling. This is increasing the virus. Safe travels queen”, while another fan suggested that Spice has better chances dealing with the outbreak in America than Jamaica. “Any benefit inna foreign it’s better USA than Jamaica with this outbreak better spice be in USA she can help Jamaica better too being out of Jamaica in a more powerful country,” the fan said.

WHO’s new declaration means the COVID-19 disease is spreading in multiple countries around the world at the same time, including the United States which on Friday declared a national emergency with over 2,600 confirmed cases.  66 of those confirmed cases are in Georgia.

The Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta star may have simply had prior obligations to the VH1 show which kicks off Season 9 on Monday, March 16. Spice, a very dedicated mother, most likely prefers to have her kids close to her during the outbreak.
