Legendary dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel has released his latest album titled ‘To Tanesha’ today (January 10). Listen to it below.

The album was released just three days after Kartel’s 44th birthday, which he celebrated for the 9th time behind bars since being was convicted for murder in Jamaica.

The new album is dedicated to his common-law wife, Tanesha Johnson, who fans know as “Shorty.” Though the pair have had an on-and-off relationship for over a decade, Kartel has never been one to shy away from the love he has for Johnson, the mother of three of his children.

Shorty heads the Short Boss Muzik record label which co-produced To Tanesha along with her husband’s Vybz Kartel Muzik label.  The couple share three boys together with two of them, appearing on the album.

Over the years, Kartel has made numerous public comments about his tumultuous relationship with Johnson, while Johnson, for the most part, has remained tight-lipped about their involvement.  In 2018, he confirmed on Instagram that the pair were no longer together and that Shorty was not authorized to conduct business on his behalf. The incarcerated deejay’s right-hand man, Sikka Rymes, also echoed his sentiments. Both artistes eventually deleted the posts.

Towards the end of 2019, Johnson and Kartel were seemingly back on good terms with the artiste posting several pictures and videos of Johnson and her sons.

To Tanesha is jammed-packed with several artistes including his two sons, Adidja (Likkle Addi) and Akheel Palmer (Likkle Vybz). The 10-track project will also feature Jada Kingdom, Sikka Rhymes, and Instagram model turned artiste Jodi Couture.

An almost 9 minute long short-film for Then You & Me, which is the lead single on the album was released on Christmas Day, two weeks ago.  The video has received over 1 million views.

Despite being behind bars since 2011, Kartel has not let prison slow down his career. In 2019, he was also listed as the third most-streamed reggae/dancehall artist of the year.  The deejay’s last project was ‘King of the Dancehall’, released in 2016.

The World Government deejay is currently awaiting the verdict of the appeal in his murder case. In December 2019, the Appeal Court said its preparation of the judgement of his murder conviction is at an “advanced stage”.
