Mortimer

Mortimer McPherson, known professionally as Mortimer, is a Jamaican roots reggae and dancehall-influenced recording artist from Kingston, Jamaica, recognized for his soulful voice and thoughtful songwriting. His style blends traditional drum-and-bass reggae with contemporary Jamaican music, moving between a smoky alto and a smooth falsetto. Mortimer first emerged in 2014 with the release of Message Music on VP Records, a debut that helped establish him as one of the key voices in Jamaica’s modern reggae revival. He later gained wider attention through collaborations and singles such as “Careful,” “Lightning,” and “This Feeling,” and through his debut EP Fight the Fight. In 2024, he released his first full-length album, From Within, further cementing his reputation for emotionally direct music centered on love, resilience, spirituality, and social reflection. His work has drawn critical praise and award recognition across the reggae scene, and he is widely associated with the contemporary roots movement led by artists such as Protoje and Winta James.
