Lauryn Hill Says Rohan Marley “Never Cheated” As She Marks His Birthday
Ms. Lauryn Hill publicly defended Rohan Marley against long-running rumors of infidelity while wishing him a happy birthday on Instagram.
The Fugees singer, 50, posted a birthday message for Marley on Tuesday, May 19, praising the Jamaican businessman as her “protector,” “defender,” and the father of their children.
“Happy Birthday @romarley! We have been through a lot, but I will always be grateful to you and for you as my protector, my defender and Father to our beautiful children,” Hill wrote. “I hope you’re being celebrated and appreciated today and every day.”
Hill then addressed one of the most persistent claims around their relationship.
“For those who didn’t know better, @romarley never cheated on me!” she wrote. “I remember the beginning when we were young, majestic, and uniting our worlds. Have a blessed one, King.”
Marley, who turned 54, responded in the comments with praise of his own.
“Oh my word… you are the most amazing human being ever,” he wrote. “Thank you always Queen… We may not live under the same roof but still love same way… Jah love.”
In another comment, he added: “When the lioness speaks…”
Marley, the son of Reggae legend Bob Marley, has at least 12 children, including five with Hill: Zion, Selah, Joshua, John and Sara. He and Hill were together from the mid-1990s until their split in 2009.
Joshua, who records as YG Marley, broke through in 2023 with Praise Jah in the Moonlight, which was co-written by Hill and draws from the Marley family’s musical legacy.
In a 2024 interview on the Drink Champs podcast, Marley said that his large family reflects the environment he came from.
“I love them (my children) so much, all of them, and they love each other because I was raised this way,” he said.
“I’m a product of my environment because, you know, growing up certain way, you’ll just have ‘this way’, but then when you get older, you realise maybe it’s time to be like Ziggy or Cedella where you just kinda settle down and live life where you don’t have to worry about things.”
Rohan’s 12 children also include the two he had with his first wife, Geraldine Khawly, before their 1996 divorce. He also has one child with Brazilian model Barbara Fialho; they were married in 2019 and divorced in 2020.
Reggae legend Bob Marley acknowledged 11 children. He had three with his wife Rita Marley—Cedella, Ziggy, and Stephen—and adopted her daughters Sharon and Stephanie from previous relationships. Outside his marriage, he also fathered Robbie, Rohan, Karen, Julian, Ky-Mani, and Damian—all of whom have different mothers.
