George Nooks Pays Tribute To Late Mom In New Song ‘Mama’

George Nooks with his mom

Reggae gospel singer George Nooks will, for the first time this year, observe Mother’s Day without his beloved mother by his side.

Still reeling from the pain of her passing last year after she succumbed to cancer, the veteran singer has channelled his grief into a deeply personal song, penned in her memory. The track entitled ‘Mama’ reflects both the sorrow of loss and the enduring love he continues to carry.

Clearly emotional as he reflected on the loss, Nooks shared that his mother was one of his greatest supporters throughout his life and career. Her unwavering encouragement, he noted, remains irreplaceable, leaving a void he is still struggling to come to terms with.

“This song doesn’t quite capture what I am feeling, but I did it for others who have also lost their mothers,” he said softly. “It is not easy because you know on their special day you would have been so excitedly making preparations to treat them like the queens they are or to call and just…” His voice trailed off, overtaken by memories of moments that now live only in his heart.

Recorded on the Production Totally label, the song is now available on all major digital platforms. While it is rooted in his personal loss, Nooks believes its message will resonate far beyond his experience.

“Even though I’m singing about my mother, it can be a balm for anyone who has lost a loved one,” he explained.

As families across the island prepare to celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday, Nooks is urging those fortunate enough to still have their mothers to hold them close.

“You don’t know the pain you feel when they are no longer around. Cherish them now; don’t hold back, because once they are gone, there is no other opportunity to pamper them. Please do not take them or their love for granted,” he said.
