Spice, Shenseea Clash Brewing? Dancehall Fans Take Sides

Spice Shenseea
Spice, Shenseea

After the Queen of Dancehall Spice dropped her latest release, Different Category this week, the rumor mill was kicked into overdrive with many speculating that it was a counteraction to Shenseea’s January 2 track, Dolly, which had featured Moyann and dance trio Prettii Prettii, TC, and Rebel.

Produced by Troyton Music, Different Category featured an old-school Dancehall beat which the Queen rode to assert her dominance and ‘unmatched levels’ in the game.

However, it didn’t take long for the fans to catch on to some of the shady lyrics in the song. The one-liner that has immediately grabbed everyone’s attention goes, “Battery Dolly, whola dem jus sen fi mi, dem a secondary cant chat to me, dem temporary.”  This has left many to assume that Spice’s reference, “Battery Dolly” – a derogatory term meaning an overly promiscuous female, can only be targeted at the Shenyeng princess and the former Team Spice dancers, aka “Di Dollies” – Prettii Prettii, TC and Rebel.

Here’s what the fans are saying about a possible clash between Dancehall’s most popular female stars.

The Clapback

“Den Spice clap back fast eeehh 😂😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 come tru Auntie Grace 🔥🔥🔥,” one fan wrote.

“The clapback is real 🔥🔥🔥🔥 😮 love it lyrics!! Listen carefully,” another said.

“Shenseea betta know this ! Bout she a dolly gal u temporary!” added a heated Spice fan.

“Spice deal wid it short and sweet. Nav nuh time fi a gi dem too much energy,” said one.

Another said it was about time Spice finally responded to Shenseea: “Yesssss answer Shenseea, finally! A long time she a drop words, but Spice final straw, was when Shenseea sey all a har song dem nuh sound di same, right dey suh she tek a shot off a di queen…. no #batterydolly lol.”

This fan felt Spice’s new track was the beginning of a clash that would make its way on the ‘Sting’ stage this year: “When you dealing with kids you give them the kid’s glove treatment. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 … I listened to the lyrics of this song and it is on point to the T. This song reminds me of the “Spice it up magnum interview” you had with @grunggaadzilla [Bounty Killer] and was discussing clashing from way back then. I love the come back. I love the fact that a song was thrown at you and you made a great come back as you always do with a spitting lyrical song. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Now we are talking about dancehall. We ready for STING 2022🙌.”

One Facebook user, Sabrina, added, “Dem figet who Spice be. Every minute big belly producer and him “dolly” dash words and gwan like them innocent. But when Spice answer a problem. Dem member clash Spice from sting days that song was a likkle warm up gwan draw her out. Cause Shensea song writers cant save her in a clash”

“Spice is Grammy nominated she can’t waste her time Pon clash. She should not have released nutting about no dolly. If Sheensea is missing her rassssclartt childhood she could order some Barbie doll from Amazon to keep her company. Chaaa! Big 2022 and you singing about a dolly, wdbc!!” commented another Facebook user.

Did Shenseea Call This On Herself?

Some of Spice’s Besties thought the Blessed singer threw the first punch and now deserves what the Queen has dished her.

“A @shenseea first start up diss so she and @prettyofficial__ @rebel.daily on tc haffi get diss and disrespect from @spiceofficial spice the lil gyal to bright eeh wont come size up dem self with big people,” remarked a social media follower.

Another concurred, “If @shenseea never did start up diss by throwing words pon Spice, Spice would not come out and drop that song diss up shenseea and did battery dollys dem.”

But Is Spice The Original Dolly?

Things got even more interesting when one fan claimed that Spice was first on the ‘dolly’ concept and that Shenseea’s new single Dolly was inspired by it. This being Spice’s Digicel Christmas ad last month where the QOD played a doll who came alive to spread some Christmas cheer.

“Rass😂😂 mi jus listen di song, [Dolly] suh ah chu Spice duh di Christmas ad ah jump outta one dolly box mek gyal mek pink hair dolly song😂😂😂😂.”

The Shenyengs Are Out!

All the hype surrounding the QOD’s new release however didn’t go unnoticed by Shenseea fans.

One commented on Spice’s Instagram page to say, “U trying to diss SHENSSEA but this a flop 😂😂 u views and u stream are low 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 We still winning #shenyeng!”

Others joined in, “Shenseea badda dan you tho 🥴,” and “It’s Shenseea for me 🔥Not every girl can be a Dolly 🔥❤️.”

This Shenyeng fan used Spice’s words against her to say that it is Shenseea and ‘Di Dollies’ who are in a higher league: “Can’t be the same, the dolls hair looks better BODY BETTER FACE BETTER no cap Spice botch and Shenseea a top notch it’s the truth don’t @me.”

The Song, The Beat

As for the new track Different Category and its nostalgic beat dubbed the Booyaka Riddim, the producer Troyton Music came in high regards. “@troytonmusic bad dancehall riddim G ..I Wish more producers would follow the movement back to the original thing 🙏,” said one fan.

Others agreed, “This is hard tho I like the beat and the song, it’s like old era meets new era.. old Spice is back again…” and “Bow down b-tches!!! Why this never deh pon di album??🧐🧐 what a sweet mix👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Hear bars👀👀👀👀.”

Another added, “The riddim is a combination of the baddest 90’s riddim. Never realize until mi buck it ina di car. This is a sure hit, plus it’s a juggling 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.”

“One thing I love about Spice music….represent dancehall this beat bringing bk to memory 90s pon di varanda a bubble 😂😂😂😂😂,” commented another.
