Dancehall star Teejay has formally addressed his split from Romeich Entertainment and the decision to completely transform his image in a new interview on the SunVibes Show with Supa Hype yesterday.

Since news surfaced about his departure from Romeich Entertainment last month, the Guard Ring singer has been tight-lipped about the matter, leaving many to speculate that perhaps there was a falling out between himself and his manager Romeich Major. Teejay would go on to release his single Trust on May 1 that cautions trusting fake friends, which simply added more fuel to the fiery rumors.

Now Teejay has finally provided some clarity about his current standing with Romeich. “Mi haffi make the people dem know … there is no bad vibes between me and Romeich Entertainment. Never, you get me!” he said.

The Owna Lane singer added that people should not (always) use his music as a source of information about real matters concerning his life. “So mi nuh want uno feel like dem song weh we a do, weh a dropout, featured on or none a dem ting deh, none, nothing like that! We and Romeich Entertainment good. A mi bredda you get me.”

“We nuh do drama, we nuh do the drama ting … mi kinda different, mi humble,” the Up Top Boss added.

In fact, Teejay recently released a new track with Romeich called Deeds that dropped two weeks ago on May 30.

As for the song Trust, he says it is purely a ballad to highlight how distrusting friends can be, pointing out that it’s also something many people can relate to. “So Trust song now. Ah every day we see trust dem ting happen in a di street. We see friend kill friend, friend sell out friend, even mother sell out son, son sell out father, all a dem ting deh, father kill son, so the song you can just listen to it and hold a vibe in a every way,” the singjay said.

New Management

Teejay was officially signed to Solid Agency this month, which is headed by industry pioneer Sharon Burke. His decision to part ways with Romeich Entertainment was strictly to grow his career, he revealed. “Well as dem say in a shotta before, you can’t be baby forever enuh, you have to grow up,” the deejay said.

Each year, the 27-year-old musician says he set goals for his success and tries to see them through and this year was just the right time for a change in management.

“Every year mi have accomplishment weh mi try fi complete every year…mi have goals weh mi try fi achieve every year in a life so this year mi just try fi achieve a lot of things, just dat mi stay focused pon right now – we haffi move, we haffi graduate, we haffi level up di ting you see mi and just dat mi do right now.”

Teejay also has his own record label Top Braff Music, with local Dancehall talents that he manages. He produced many of his own singles under the brand, including his collab with Vybz Kartel on the track Pressure, also Car Seat with Shenseea, and Mood with Ishawna.

New Look

Now rocking a new look, Teejay has ditched his signature plaited cornrows (which he has been growing for 10 years now) for a faded, low-cut trim. The drastic cut follows another drastic change in image with a now thinner, leaner Teejay. The Dancehall deejay lost more than 50lbs last year by committing himself to a healthier diet.

Revealing what motivated this new and improved transformation, the Montego Bay native said he did it as a way of reinventing himself, the way many musicians before him have done.

“Well this is Dancehall enuh and over the years we watch the greatest and we realize sey dem never stuck in a one place like light post, you get me. We have to change up di ting … you cant just [do] one ting. And ah weh you comfortable with at the same time, so you haffi just do with what you pleased with yuh see mi.”
