After spending seven years in prison and making his massive come back last year, Buju Banton is set to kick off the new decade on a high note: being one of the featured artistes on the ‘Bad Boys For Life’ soundtrack.

Earlier this week, Banton had teased the song, titled “Murda She Wrote”, via Instagram but the complete song and the soundtrack was released on January 17, the opening day for the movie.

Bad Boys For Life is the third installment of the Bad Boys franchise, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

“Murda She Wrote”, Buju’s first song of 2020, is a nod to the 1994 classic dancehall hit ‘Muder She Wrote’ performed by Chaka Demus & Plies. The song, along with the entire soundtrack, was produced by Banton’s longtime friend and producer, DJ Khaled. Also featuring on the Bad Boys soundtrack is Rick Ross, Meek Mill, The Black Eyed Peas, Pitbull, Jaden Smith, among others.

The lyrics of “Murda She Wrote” correlate with the overall theme of Bad Boys For Life and the “Bad Boys” franchise, depicting the militant life of an American gangster or a “bad boy”.

This is not the first time a Jamaican artiste has been featured on the official soundtrack for the Bad Boys movie franchise. The soundtrack of the first film,  released in 1996, featured Diana King‘s Shy Guy.

Since making his massive comeback in 2019, Buju Banton has reclaimed his stop as a reggae/dancehall heavyweight, while also making international moves. In November 2019, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label announced that they signed a partnership deal with the artiste. Buju has also been in the studio with DJ Khaled several times since his release, with talks that the pair may have more music together.

He has also hinted at an album this year, having released a string of singles including “Steppa“, “Country For Sale”, “Bagga Mouth” and “Trust” which went number one on Billboard’s Digital Reggae Sales chart.
