Dancehall songstress Shenseea says she feels honored that some fans now consider her worthy to be the next Queen of Dancehall, but the singer says she is not interested in titles or crowns.

After unveiling her impressive freestyle chops a few days ago, the ShengYeng Queen drew way more attention than she had anticipated and even gained several unexpected endorsements from some pretty big players in the music industry, as well as RT Boss, the controversial former friend/spiritual advisor of the current Queen of Dancehall, Spice.

The simmering freestyle, which Shenseea uploaded on YouTube last Sunday, quickly went viral and much to the reverence of several local Dancehall deejays as well as a few well-known celebs abroad, namely US actress and media personality Lala Anderson, Jamaican-born model Winnie Harlow and the legendary rap star herself, Missy Elliot.

Fans were in complete awe of her lyrical potency and quick-witted delivery that some even compared Shenseea to rap icon, Nicki Minaj. This didn’t go over as smoothly with the local ShenYeng supporters, however; who felt Shenseea was in a league of her own.

The freestyle has also spurred a lot of chatter on social media about her readiness to officially remove the Queen of Dancehall crown from the resident matriarch Spice.

While Spice has seemingly set her focus elsewhere at the moment, she must be aware the ShengYeng Queen is prowling close and the support of her fans may just have real effects. This might be especially unnerving, as Spice’s alleged onetime friend and spiritual advisor/psychic, RT Boss, has also declared that the “gate pull” for Shenseea right now.

In an Instagram story yesterday, RT wrote, “Shenseea new queen of dancehall 2021 and more… Gate pull your Time now.”

He continued to say that he would announce the new princess, i.e. Shenseea’s replacement, in due time but in the meantime, “Shenyang time gate pull” which suggests he has used his ‘special abilities’ to clear the way for Shenseea to take over as the new Queen of Dancehall. After all, he claims full credit for positioning Spice on the throne which was held by Dancehall veteran Lady Saw.

The outpouring of rave reviews and praises from everyone has come to Shenseea’s attention but the Blessed deejay admits that, though she feels flattered, she is by no means concerned about titles and crowns.

“I’m honored that they (the fans) see me as such (the next dancehall queen) but it wasn’t a title I’ve always wanted. I want to do music and enjoy it for the fun not because it is expected of me to do so,” she told the Jamaica Star today.

Shenseea also said that she didn’t even allow herself to get caught up in the hype and trying to prove her worth. Her recipe for success is and will always be based on one simple principle – put in the work and let that speak for itself.

The ShengYeng Queen further added that she is grateful for the exposure and just wants to continue doing what she does best.

“I feel exposed — in a good way of course — and I’m grateful for that because I get to showcase my talent while representing the culture. But it wasn’t even a goal of mine to prove them (naysayers) wrong. I’ve just been exercising my passion because I genuinely love what I do.”
