“I don’t care who your daddy is, I’ll kill you right here.” That’s what William Roberts III, the son of Rick Ross and Tia Kemp, says a man told him before allegedly hitting him in the head with a handgun outside Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach.
According to a police report obtained by Complex, the confrontation happened around 9:40 p.m. on Oct. 11 near the corner of McLeod Avenue and Weaver Street.
William told officers he was standing outside with a woman when a man got out of a car holding a tan handgun.
The suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Don Roberts III of Daytona Beach. Despite the matching last name and even the matching “III,” the two men are not related.
The woman appears to be at the center of it. Don allegedly had a previous romantic relationship with her, and court records say he asked, “That’s what we doing?” before aiming the weapon at William.
William says Don then pistol-whipped him on the right side of his head and drove off in what he described as a gray BMW or Kia. William drove himself home afterward and told police he did not need medical attention.

He didn’t report the incident until the following day. Per the police report, he waited because “he was in fear,” a detail that hits harder given the threat allegedly came with a direct shot at his famous father.
Don turned himself in on Oct. 16 and faces felony counts of aggravated assault and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
He pleaded not guilty on Oct. 19, so right now this is William’s account against a defendant who is contesting the charges.
Don has asked to be released on a $50,000 bond, and that request is set to be addressed at a hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Prosecutors have agreed to it, but a judge still makes the final call.
That same Wednesday was already a heavy one for the family. Rick Ross is due in court on Oct. 21 in his own case, after being arrested Oct. 1 in Miami Beach on a felony charge of battery by strangulation and a misdemeanor battery charge.

Those charges followed domestic violence allegations from his ex-girlfriend, influencer Jazzma Kendrick. Ross has denied the accusations, and after being released on bail he briefly traveled to Paris.
Related coverage has also reported that Ross opted out of attending pre-trial hearings in the domestic violence case. So far he hasn’t publicly addressed what reportedly happened to his son in Daytona Beach.
So two men named Roberts, neither related to the other, have court dates landing on the same day for very different reasons.
For William, the immediate question is what a judge decides about the man he says threatened to kill him, and if Don walks out on bond while the case keeps moving.
