Rygin King, born Matthew Smith, is a Jamaican dancehall artist from Montego Bay, St. James, widely identified with the rise of trap-influenced dancehall. Sources describe him as first gaining attention in the mid-2010s, with early singles such as “Feather Weight” helping build momentum before his breakout in 2018 with “Tuff” and a widely praised Reggae Sumfest performance. He was previously known by the stage name Jah B, and fan and media descriptions have called him “Dancehall’s Baddest Thing” and the “Trap King.” His style blends street-focused lyrics with melodic trap and R&B elements, helping define a more modern, crossover sound within Jamaican dancehall. In 2020, he survived a shooting that left him seriously injured, and later turned that experience into reflective music, including the 2022 Therapy project. He remains an influential figure for younger Caribbean artists and a prominent voice in contemporary dancehall.
