DancehallMag is the leading independent publication covering Dancehall and Reggae music, the artists, and culture since 2019.

Koffee isn’t one for long announcements. Her latest drop arrived on Instagram with five words, a freezing-face emoji and a tag: “OVA SO REMIX 🥶 @djjjfrost OUT NOW.”

That’s the whole rollout. The remix of “Ova So,” built with DJ Jack Frost, is live now, and Koffee left the music to do the explaining.

The 🥶 emoji is doing a lot of work in that caption. It’s a pretty clear hint at the mood she wants listeners to bring to the track, and it plays nicely off the name of her collaborator. Beyond the post, Koffee hasn’t shared credits, release notes or a breakdown of what the remix changes from the original.

Some fans like it that way, and for them the stripped-back drop is part of the appeal. Others, especially anyone who’s followed her closely since her early run, are likely to want more context about the pairing and how this version came together. For now, the track is the only answer on offer.

The low-key approach fits how Koffee has built her career. The Spanish Town artist first caught wide attention as a teenager, and records like “Burning” and “Toast” turned her into one of the most recognizable young voices in modern reggae.

Her 2019 EP “Rapture” won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album, making her the youngest artist and the first woman to take that category.

She followed it with her debut album “Gifted” in 2022. She has also shown she’s comfortable stepping outside the strict reggae lane, most visibly on “W” with Gunna, a crossover that brought her to a broader hip-hop audience.

That history matters for how people hear a remix like this one. A Koffee remix usually lands with two crowds at once: reggae and dancehall heads who prize her roots-leaning writing and delivery, and listeners who found her through her genre-blending moments. Handing “Ova So” to a DJ for a fresh take gives both sides something to chew on.

What the remix means for her next chapter is still an open question. Koffee hasn’t tied it to a wider project or teased anything beyond the release itself, at least not in this post.

For now, the move is simple. “Ova So” has a new life with DJ Jack Frost’s fingerprints on it, the link is out, and Koffee is letting fans decide how cold it really runs.
