A single tweet was all it took. On October 6, 2026, the account Infamous Sylvia posted that she had “just got some info that Diddy’s case has been overturned,” and within hours timelines were treating Sean Combs like a free man.
The catch was sitting right there in the same post. She also wrote, “I am waiting for the appeal docket to update to verify the info,” which is a polite way of saying nothing had actually been confirmed.
It still hasn’t. Combs has not won his appeal, his convictions have not been thrown out, and no court has ordered him released from federal prison.
AllHipHop spent a good chunk of the night chasing the claim down, talking to sources and checking the record.
The outlet found nothing showing any judge had reversed the case and summed it up bluntly: “The internet overturned it off of a tweet. The court did not.”
To understand why the rumor felt believable to some people, you have to go back to July 2025. A Manhattan jury found Combs guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

The same jury acquitted him of the far more serious racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges.
He was later sentenced to 50 months in prison. His legal team appealed both the convictions and the sentence, and the case eventually landed in front of a three judge panel at the Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
That panel heard oral arguments on April 9, 2026. One of the central questions from the defense was if the trial judge had improperly considered conduct connected to the charges Combs was acquitted of when handing down his sentence.
The judges asked some pointed questions that day, and that kind of courtroom moment tends to give supporters hope. But the panel didn’t announce a decision at the hearing. The appeal was taken under consideration, and that is where things still stand.
There are really two stories happening here. One is a legal process moving at its usual slow pace, with a ruling that could arrive at any time and go any direction.
The other is a social media machine that doesn’t wait for paperwork and is primed to believe the biggest headline possible.

AllHipHop didn’t hide its frustration with the second one. “Y’all be falling for anything from anybody,” the outlet wrote, while also acknowledging that the appeal is very much alive and that some form of relief down the line isn’t off the table.
Combs’s lawyers are fighting for exactly that outcome. For now, according to AllHipHop, he remains at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey while the court weighs his case.
Until the Second Circuit actually rules, the docket is the only place the real answer will show up. Right now it isn’t saying anything new.
