Chike is pulling no punches on his new collaboration with Tyler, the Creator. The rapper has revealed that their joint music video is built around full reenactments of five classic films, a concept ambitious enough that Chike personally urged the budget to match the vision.
The five films are Napoleon Dynamite, Men in Black, Paid in Full, Sinners, and Dead Presidents.
According to Chike, the selection was split deliberately: two of his favorite films, two of Tyler’s, and one they both share. We reenacted five movies for the video,” he said. “Napoleon Dynamite just ended up being one of them.”
The director drove the concept, and the two artists committed fully to each world. We dressed and did the whole for all five movies,” Chike said, describing a production that spans genres from cult comedy to crime drama to science fiction.
The Men in Black segment drew particular attention. Rather than going for the most obvious scenes, Chike said they recreated the climactic sequence involving the cockroach villain.
We did the scene where he uh at the end when they shoot the the ship out the side of the the the cockroach and all that,” he said.
The scale of the production was not lost on Chike, who made his expectations clear to the team handling the budget. “I told the lady I said, ‘Hey, don’t embarrass me in front of Tyler. Cough that money up,'” he recalled.
The inclusion of Sinners and Dead Presidents alongside Napoleon Dynamite signals a video that moves across wildly different tonal registers, from the deadpan Idaho suburbs to the gritty street narratives of 1990s Black cinema.
That range reflects the breadth of both artists’ tastes and suggests the final product is designed to reward viewers who know the source material.
The artwork for the single has already generated attention, and with five full film reenactments packed into a single video, the release looks set to be one of the more visually ambitious projects either artist has attached their name to.
