DancehallMag is the leading independent publication covering Dancehall and Reggae music, the artists, and culture since 2019.

Nearly 20 years after it first soundtracked a dance floor showdown, “(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me” is still racking up numbers.

The Sean Paul and Keyshia Cole collab has now crossed 500 million views on YouTube through the Jamaican star’s official channel.

That’s only part of the picture. The same video has pulled in more than 75 million views on Atlantic Records’ channel, pushing its combined total past 575 million.

The song didn’t start life as a duet. It first appeared on Sean Paul’s album The Trinity, produced by Donovan “Don Corleone” Bennett, before the version with American singer Keyshia Cole arrived as a single.

That remix landed alongside the soundtrack for Step Up, the 2006 dance film, and that’s where a lot of listeners first caught it.

Pairing a dancehall heavyweight with an R&B voice was exactly the kind of crossover move that made the track travel well beyond Jamaica.

For a song this old, the certifications keep coming in at a surprising clip. In July it went Platinum in the United Kingdom for 600,000 units, and that followed a Gold certification in the United States back in 2024.

Those late plaques say something about how people listen now. A track can sit in the catalogue for years and still keep climbing as streaming totals pile up long after the original chart run has ended.

On Spotify, the song has passed 672 million streams, enough to sit among Sean Paul’s five most-streamed tracks. The company it keeps there is telling, though, because his newer and older hits are stacked well above it.

“No Lie” with Dua Lipa leads his Spotify catalogue at 1.9 billion streams, with “Temperature” behind it at 1.5 billion. “Get Busy” follows at 845 million and “She Doesn’t Mind” at 735 million, which leaves “Give It Up To Me” chasing a crowded field.

So there are two ways to read this milestone. One is that a 2006 soundtrack single is still finding new ears, and the other is that even a half billion views barely moves it up the ranks of Sean Paul’s own discography.

The timing makes the run even more striking. Just days before this YouTube landmark, “Baby Boy,” his duet with Beyoncé, crossed 500 million streams on Spotify.

That’s two different songs from two different collaborations hitting the same round number on two platforms within the same stretch.

Sean Paul’s catalogue has always leaned on big-name pairings, and those partnerships keep paying off years after release.

For Keyshia Cole, the milestone lands on one of the best-known features of her career, a moment where her voice met dancehall on a global stage.

With the views still climbing and the UK Platinum fresh, the next question is how close the song can get to the tracks sitting just above it on Sean Paul’s list.
