Popcaan, Burna Boy’s ‘Toni-Ann Singh’ Certified Gold In Canada
Toni-Ann Singh, the 2022 collaboration between Afrobeats giant Burna Boy and Dancehall superstar Popcaan, is now certified Gold in Canada.
Music Canada announced the certification on Monday (January 19), recognizing sales and streaming equivalents exceeding 40,000 units.
Produced by Dancehall producer Anju Blaxx, the song is named after and dedicated to Toni-Ann Singh, the former Miss World (2019) turned recording artist who hails from St. Thomas—the same Jamaican parish as Popcaan.
At the time of its release, the song served as a soundtrack to the swirling rumors regarding a romance between the beauty queen and the Unruly Boss. Speculation first ignited in June 2022, when Popcaan brought Singh along to Grenada, where he was headlining a Youth Rally.
Following several public sightings, Singh became the muse for the Burna Boy collaboration. Singh later collaborated with Popcaan for her own musical debut, Next To Me, featured on his 2023 album Great Is He. The pair shared an on-screen kiss in the video, further fanning the flames.
Toni-Ann Singh appeared on Burna Boy’s sixth studio album, Love, Damini (Atlantic Records), which has proven to be a commercial success in Canada.
Alongside the Gold nod for Toni-Ann Singh, Music Canada recently certified the album itself as Platinum (80,000 units). Additionally, the lead single Last Last is now Quadruple Platinum (320,000 units), while It’s Plenty secured Platinum status (80,000 units).
This milestone marks Popcaan’s third single to reach Gold status or higher in Canada. He previously earned a Platinum plaque (80,000 units) for I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) with Jamie xx and Young Thug, and a Gold certification (40,000 units) for his 2019 Davido collaboration, Risky.
