Silk Radio UK Hosts Special ‘Radiothon’ To Raise Hurricane Melissa Funds
On January 8 2026, Silk Radio UK will host a special “RadioThon” to raise urgent funds for communities in Jamaica devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
Radio broadcaster Jo Jo Mac explained that donations will provide immediate relief—food, clean water, shelter, medical supplies—and support local recovery efforts as families rebuild homes, schools, and livelihoods.
“Silk Radio UK is partnering with vetted local relief organizations to ensure every pound or dollar raised reaches those who need it most. We will also be broadcasting simultaneously across several other platforms via streamng partners,” Jo Jo Mac said.
The veteran broadcaster appealed for all those interested to “give generously”.
“Please give what you can and share this campaign with friends and family. Even small gifts add up and make a real difference: your pledge will help restore safety, dignity, and hope to communities still recovering from the storm,” she said.
Hurricane Melissa was a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane that struck the Caribbean in late October 2025. It is recorded as the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in Jamaica, surpassing the previous record held by Hurricane Gilbert in 1988.
Over 150,000 homes were damaged, and hospitals, schools, and power systems were severely impacted. Over 90,000 were displaced, and the storm caused over $8.8 billion in physical damage, equivalent to roughly 32% of the country’s GDP.
“Thank you for standing with us. If you love even one thing about Jamaica and the Jamaican people, please extend your heart and wallet. Let’s all be a part of something bigger than us. Thanks in advance for your generosity to the Jamaican people,” Jo Jo Mac added.
