Mello Vibes Hosts Back-To-School Giveaway In Portland

US-based content creator Mello Vibes is looking forward to his annual back-to-school giveaway which will be held at the Port Antonio Library in Portland on August 20, 2025.
The event, which typically attracts hundreds of school children, is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
He will be distributing several ‘vibes packs’ to school children as a way to mark the memory of his late mother, Elaine ‘Hope’ Thompson who passed away years ago. She worked as a janitor at the Port Antonio Primary school and the Bank of Nova Scotia in the parish of Portland.
“This was my mother’s idea, she always talked about giving back to the community if she had it . But she didn’t get to do it because she passed away too soon, so I want to do it for her,” social media star Mello Vibes, whose real name is Melvin Grey, said.
“I remember when I was just 10 years old, she would take me and my twin brother to these jobs to help clean up so it would be much faster. The bank job was our favorite because we would find money while cleaning up. Through it all, even with her meagre salary, all she would talk about is giving back to her community, each one helping one,” he added.
The social media influencer’s mother passed away from complications associated with diabetes. He continues to honour her wishes through this labour of love with his annual back to school treat. He is inviting all school children in Port Antonio and neighbouring areas to attend.
“Let’s gear up our future leaders with everything they need for a successful school year. What’s in the vibes pack? Book packs and school supplies, notebooks, pencils, folders, healthy snacks and water,” he added.

The event will be open to all students, and is being sponsored by Devine Choice Easter Bun.
The pastry company teamed up with Mello Vibes during the Easter season to spread the love and sweet treats across the Portland community by giving out traditional Easter bun and cheese care packages for families.
“The event will be held on a first come first serve. Let’s make going back to school something to celebrate. We’re going to have uplifting music and positive vibes, lots of smiles, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Come hold a mello vibes,” he said.
