As expected, American rapper Rick Ross wrapped up an impressive set at Sandz Caribbean Music Festival on Sunday (April 9) at Plantation Cove in St Ann. The Biggest Boss vibed and serenaded partygoers with crowd-pleasers such as Bugatti, B.M.F., Aston Martin Music, Pop Thatand Stay Schemin, among others.

After landing in Jamaica last week, the Maybach Music founder said he was eager to party and feel the energy of the crowd at Sandz. “I wanna come perform my music and also for me, coming to Jamaica, I just wanna absorb that real Jamaica vibe,” he said during a virtual press conference last Friday.

The 47-year-old also mentioned that he was anticipating meeting some of the new up-and-coming local acts, hoping for a possible collaboration but admitted he wasn’t privy to who they were.

“When I think of new, young artists, there’s nobody that just comes to my mind right now so hopefully while I am there I can be introduced to at least six to a dozen young artists. That would be cool, that would be dope,” he said.

He later linked up with artists like Teejay and Bakya backstage during their performances at Sandz.

Ross was part of a slew of artists that appeared over the four-day series of events throughout the Easter holiday, including Beenie Man, Gyptian, Moyann, Munga Honorable, and Stalk Ashley.

Sandz Caribbean Music Festival was one of seven events held for ‘Vacae Weekend’ (April 7-10), at several venues within the environs of Ocho Rios, St Ann. The series also features popular events such as The Lawn, Pan Di Plaza, Strictly2k, Aquaholix Fete, Ova Suh, and The Estate Jamaica.

Days leading up to his featured performance at Sandz, Ross made headlines during his Jamaican vacay, enjoying the island’s many attractions and local spots while mingling with fans.

One was a humorous mix-up Ross shared on social media, involving two fans mistaking him for fellow Hip-Hop superstar Drake. In the clip, he asked the ladies if they knew his name, to which they replied “Drake.”

Ross kindly replied “Incorrect,” before letting them know he was “the big belly rude boy.” He tagged the Rich Flex rapper and captioned the video, “@champagnepapi they need you in Jamaica.”

Drake also re-shared the clip on his IG Story, joking, “At least they know we identical twins @richforever.”

Rick Ross was also poked fun at when he was spotted hanging on for his life during a biscuiting (tubing) ride at the beach in another post making the rounds on social media.

Other posts shared by Ross with his 17.6 million Instagram followers, saw the Hip-Hop star ‘living life’ and checking off his ‘things to do’ list.

Prior to his visit, the rapper said, “As soon as I get there I wanna land and go to the best fish spot, I told them the next day I wanna go water rafting, I want to eat some real curry chicken, some oxtail… yes, me want live life, me only have one life fi live,” Ross said attempting to speak patois.

Ross and his “bredrins” were subsequently treated to a convoy of bamboo rafts at the White River in St. Mary. “We got all the limousines lined up,” the rapper jokingly stated referring to the rafts. Adding, “Bombocl@t mi ready to go yute!”, before taking off in the tides.

Of course his trip would not have been completed without enjoying some Jamaican cuisine, including some patties, while jet-setting back to the States.
