Reggae star Skip Marley, a grandson of Reggae legend Bob Marley, was forced to postpone a Toronto show on his “Change” North American tour, after being denied entry at the US/Canada border—seemingly over his vaccination status.

In a message and video posted to his Twitter account on Tuesday (September 20), Skip put on a brave front as he sought to give a summary of what transpired when he attempted to cross the border at the Peace Bridge, which connects Buffalo, New York, in the United States to Fort Erie, Ontario in Canada.

The 26-year-old noted that he had complied with all the prerequisites, but was still denied entry.

“I did everything I was told I needed to do to meet the entry requirements but it seems today they needed more,” wrote Skip, who was born in Jamaica and resides in Florida.

A Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) document titled “Direction to return to the United States” was attached to Marley’s tweet.

While the document did not speak to Skip’s vaccination status, it suggested that he was denied entry because of an “order or regulation made by the Governor in Council under the Emergencies Act or Quarantine Act.”

Under a Quarantine Order, Canada currently requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination for foreign nationals entering the country.

However, according to the Washington Post, the country will likely abandon the vaccine mandate at the end of September. An Associated Press source, who was not authorized to speak on the record, revealed today that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was “likely” to drop the vaccination requirement on September 30.

Meanwhile, Skip’s CBSA document assured that he “may return to Canada” when he is “no longer prohibited from entering Canada by an order or regulation made by the Governor in Council under Emergencies Act or the Quarantine Act.”

According to the Slow Down singer, he and his team are working on rescheduling the show, which was to be held on September 21 at the Toybox Nightclub in King West.

“I know many of you were looking forward to this just as much as I was and I apologize that we have to wait a bit longer. We are working on rescheduling and I’m looking forward to coming back! 🙏🏾,” he said.

“Information about ticket transfers and/or refunds will be available soon as we work out the rescheduling details. Thanks for your patience, much love 💛

Marley, who is the son of Cedella Marley and David Minto, has been on a North American tour that kicked off on August 27 in Detroit, Michigan.

He also performed at the Asbury Park in New Jersey.

He’s billed for other shows across California, Washington DC, Texas, and Florida. The tour is dubbed “Change” after a single of the same name released in April via Tuff Gong/Island Records.

Skip, who is best known for his Gold-selling hit Slow Down with H.E.R., is reportedly working on a full-length debut album, which will follow his Grammy-nominated Higher Place EP.
