IzyBeats may be a highly sought after Grammy-winning producer, but right now the current project is his debut album Edgehill, set for release in a few weeks. Not only will the production introduce him officially as an artist, but the body of work is also named after his hometown of Edgehill in St. Catherine.

The Miami-based producer-turned-artist recently wrapped a video shoot in Jamaica for the unreleased single Tu, featuring UK rapper Stefflon Don and Colombian Reggaeton star Manuel Turizo. On set, Izy spoke with DancehallMag about what he called a “special moment.”

“We’re out here mixing the culture, trying to put everything together, so I invited Stefflon Don to do the shoot with me, and we’re here, it’s a special moment,” he said.

As a producer, Izy has dedicated his musical inspiration to some of Jamaica’s finest stars including Koffee and Vybz Kartel. For this record, however, Izy’s vocals take center stage.

“This is me stepping out as an artist, stepping out as a new person, a new everything, letting people know me as an artist, telling my story now. They’re gonna know that I can sing and all this stuff,” he said.

“We’re doing the movement that we’ve been doing, trying to elevate to another level now, everyone has always been encouraging me to do it. Telling me I give everyone the sauce in the studio, so you only live once, if I don’t do it now, when will I do it… this album is my story,” he added.

The 37-year-old production extraordinaire is the mastermind behind the influx of beats which will be showcased for his musical storytelling.

“This first album is my baby so I am mainly doing all the production, and I am also working in collaboration with producers who I work with,” he said.

Creative Titans, who manages Izy and Believe Music in London are the labels behind the distribution for the album. Other featured entertainers on Edgehill are Masego, Konshens, and a crossover Reggae song with Protoje that Izy describes as “another special one too.”

Speaking on Stefflon Don, the former student of Greater Portmore High says her vibe is always good.

“The feeling is amazing, it’s always a good vibe, especially with the Jamaican heritage we share, we connect culturally. She is humble and I am humble, she good man she up, it works.”

Andron Cross first got his hands on the process of creating beats after a friend introduced him to the software Fruity Loops. Several years later, his laser focused commitment to beat-making has catapulted him to the top as one of modern music’s most respected production brands.
