Dancehall fans thronged at the return of the New Rules Festival last night, all the way to 4AM this morning at the National Stadium’s car park.

The high-energy performance from Macka Diamond, dressed in a dazzling skin-fitted bodysuit and long burgundy ponytail, proved to naysayers that the “big woman” has not lost her ability to connect with Dancehall lovers and even Generation Z fans, who gravitate to the ‘traphall’ sound.

Jahvillani, neatly dressed in full white, also graced the stage with the earlier acts of the night, performing to screaming cheers from his female fans, who yearned for more from the St. Ann native.

Aidonia’s performance was met with heavy forwards from the masses, which segued into Skeng’s blazingly electrifying presentation.

Backed by a live band with full crowd support belting out his every lyric, it was the most anticipated performance of the night.  Before exiting, he brought out Code singer Byrsco and his Taliban collaborator Stalk Ashley, who graced the stage in a revealing, black thong bodysuit. Their chemistry while performing showed synonymy with the audience who were all having a grand time while the duo lived up to expectations.

Patrons, who arrived as early as 7PM to avoid delays at the entrance, were fully satisfied with the performances leading up to Man Himself, Alkaline, who wowed Jamaica with his appearance both on and offstage.

Prior to the Champion Boy‘s stage entrance, Badda Bling’s introduction of the deejay, who has not performed in Jamaica since 2017, was enough for female fans to bellow screams in anticipation of his appearance.

Alkaline, guarded by six armed policemen who left his side only as he paced closer frontstage, opened with his latest track Static to prolonged cheers and the sounding of horns from his fans. His next song Valum came with even more rallying from the New Rules festival attendees.

The 28-year-old Dancehall hitmaker, whose songs have been featured on Haute Paris’ runway last month, continued to perform his biggest hits for just under 50 minutes with the thick crowds very attuned and receptive.

As soon as the deejay was escorted off the stage, he went towards his tent backstage as members of several media outlets looked on in hopes of engaging the artist.  But, he was immediately swooped away by police and security personnel in a dark-tinted SUV.
