Shaggy ‘Flips The Bird’ And Some Fans Are Not Happy
Dancehall megastar Shaggy’s decision to post a photograph of himself, Spice, Shane Hoosong and Ranch Entertainment studio engineer Grant Woods Valentine jointly displaying an obscene hand gesture, has not gone down well with some of his fans.
On Tuesday, Shaggy posted the photograph on Instagram of himself with a solemn look on his face, a smiling Spice, and his two male colleagues all flipping the bird, which he captioned: “Yup!! We at it again!!!”, perhaps an indication that they were back into recording and production mode.
While some of the reactions ranged from bemusement to amusement, there were others who thought it was uncharacteristic of Shaggy, and did not reflect well on him.
“So Shaggy is not a Roll model anymore. Because after today every young person will be showing their middle finger to everyone including their parents. Maybe this show of the middle finger represents something else than what we know it to be, so let us know what we don’t know,” catherinerustwong said.
Shaggy man 😢 you too nice fi show dat kinda finger ting, uuuuuncle!” pisces_kay said, while chanice added: “No a uno one.. remember the younger generation watching so what are you teaching. Respect yourself as the youths of today and tomorrow. Remember beautiful people you are leader. So uphold your sets.”
She was however chided by a Spice fan who retorted: “Girl the world aint pink bubble gum candy, go cry sumwhere else…So why so press about a middle finger like she responsible for yo kids?”
Others argued that Shaggy and company showing the “f-ck you” sign, in which the middle finger is extended with the other fingers held beneath the thumb, was a childish gesture, which adults ought not to be seen doing in the public domain.
“Seriously the finger??? Without explanation seriously??? Who’s idea was this…? Leave that for teenagers, i thought you were better than this,” ziondreamertoo stated.
“Sorry lady and gentlemen but that’s not a nice sign 😕 show some love,” sredjamaican said.
Others like son_of_a_barnes, took the opportunity to poke fun at Spice, pointing out that she looked timid doing the gesture.
“Spice a move like she nuh wah put up di middle finga. Spice yuh finga dem need Viagra or sumn? 😂😂😂😂😂😂 We don’t want Grace we want Spice,” he quipped, while kimmibooxoxo added: “A true like she nay wah do it 😂”.
Other bemused fans, sought to query the point Shaggy was trying to make by posting the photograph.
“Who is the finger for? The people looking at this picture?” pappi_d718 said, while christy.hightower.5 noted: “not sure why the finger!!! Did the record company execs piss you off?? you and Sting get into a fight??? dint keep us wonderinh ✌😎”
In March, Shaggy had also uncharacteristically uttered the F-bomb, not once, but twice, in his track dubbed Mi Nuh Know.
At the time, several users had said it was the first time they had ever heard the 53-year-old utter an expletive.
