Tai’Aysha Samples Shabba Ranks In New Song With Saweetie ‘One Night Ting’: Watch

Atlantic recording artist Tai’Aysha recruited rapper Saweetie for her debut single, One Night Ting, which interpolates some lyrics and instrumentals from Shabba Ranks’ Ting-A-ling (1992).  The song was released today.

Ting-A-ling was the first song on Shabba Ranks’ X-Tra Naked album, which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1993.   The song, which sampled Bunny Wailer’s Back To School (1982), has itself been sampled in over a dozen songs including Shabba (2013) by A$AP Ferg and A$AP Rocky, Wednesday Night Interlude (2015) by Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR, and Name Ring Bells (2021) by Wale.

Produced by Jamaican Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor (Drake, Burna Boy, John Legend), Tai’Aysha and Saweetie’s One Night Ting starts off with the distinct Steelie and Cleevie Gigi riddim sample.  Tai’Aysha, a former playboy model, told PEOPLE Magazine that the dancehall bop is “about cutting loose, letting go, and throwing yourself into the night.”

The 23-year-old, however, admitted that she’s never actually had a one-night stand.  “I’ve tried, but they come to my house the next day or send me flowers,” she said.

The music video for One Night Ting is executive produced by Miami-based filmmaker Shiri Fauer (Kodak Black) & Bruno Breil (Meek Mill, Lil Baby, Dj Khaled) and directed by Cameron Dean (Jason Derulo).  It takes place near an undisclosed coral cliff seaside and features scenes in the dancehall choreographed by Antoine Troupe (Prince, Chris Brown, Kehlani,Drake)

Saweetie, 28, who bodied her verse, said “[We] had hella fun making this record, and we really tried to capture that feeling in the video. Tai’Aysha’s fly, so it was only right we link up on a song.”

In a YouTube vlog about herself, Tai’Aysha, who is Dominican and Cambodian, explained that she’s inspired by many genres.

“I have a little bit of everything,” she said. “I feel like I have every single genre hit on the head. I have super pop stuff, dancehall tracks, I have R&B stuff, so I feel like I have a really universal thing. I love everybody, so I want everybody to love me and my craft.”
