Kingston-born dancehall star 10Tik is gearing up for the release of a five-song EP dubbed Soul of the City.

The deejay confirmed that the EP would be dropping within the next few weeks. “It’s a dark EP, ah the more militant side of 10Tik,” 10Tik, whose real name is Carlton Nembhard, confirmed to DancehallMag.

“Ah really badness song ah de pon it, the understanding of the city, understanding of the anagram…is a dark EP,” he added.

Some of the producers listed on the project include Khaos Music and 10TikCity. The distribution of the album will be handled by Hapilos and Streetside College Entertainment.

The former fireman dominated airwaves last year with the infectious Roll Deep — a song that speaks to betrayal and treachery which racked up over 14 million YouTube views. The deejay followed up that bonafide street banger with grimy The Real Way, which has surpassed 10 million views, Freedom with Yaksta, Burning Issue, and We Nuh Like War.

On January 31, he dropped his second video for the year, Zone, following Tears of Joy with Tarrus Riley.

Last year, the Gwallaz Boss had announced a plan to drop what he calls a “movie-album” dubbed, Rise of the Gwallas. “It will be 10 songs plus a documentary, this is the first time a Jamaican artist will be doing something like this with the audio-visual lock in, it ah go be extraordinary,” he had explained.

In a previous interview with DancehallMag, the deejay stated that he speaks on behalf of people who come from nothing, born with a burning desire for elevation. These core fans, in turn, have put his music on a pedestal, helping him score major milestones in his short career.

“I talk about the ones who are unspoken, the ones who are marginalized and forgotten. When people listen to my music, it’s going to be personal to them,” 10Tik said at the time.
