Teejay, Inner Circle Share Video For ‘Riches Wii A Pree’

It’s a new year but every man’s desire remains the same; wealth and prosperity are at the top of the list. Such is true for dancehall star Teejay and legendary reggae band Inner Circle, who in May collaborated on a song titled, “Riches Wii A Pree” to which their new video premiere is now trending at number 18 on video streaming platform YouTube in Jamaica.

The Grammy-award-winning group who also produced the song, premiered the video via Teejay’s official Vevo channel on December 31.

Several fans shared their delight at the unity between long-standing members of the genre and a new artist. One user, Owen Falconer had this to say, “Seeing the veterans collaborating with the young generations shows maturity and upliftment in the music business. This is a nice track, good work youth… big up”.

Zim Sparta agreed “We need more of these good vibes riddims. Makes you smile instantly.”

In the video, Teejay is an undiscovered but persistent young artist who goes the extra mile to get his CDs sold independently as a side hustle in the local plazas. As he approaches a vehicle that drives close by, he discovers that the persons inside are members of legendary reggae band “Inner Circle”, who didn’t take long to invite the young artist to their studios.

The melodic bass drops and the Montegonian deejay opens with “ghetto youths, uptop boss and the bad boys.”

The track’s message is clear, this year is all about money- “put a smile pon mi face to the bank mi walking, every ghetto youth from Glendevon to Salt Spring”.

Familiar scenes of the blue-collar worker with the everyday Jamaican cultural habits of domino playing, and a backyard clip of Teejay performing live with the band present the track to a visually appealing production.

Teejay, whose real name is Timoy Jones, recently changed his management team and soon after debuted a new look.

Inner Circle rose to reggae prominence in the mid 70’s with Jacob Miller and released a string of hits including the favorite “Tenement Yard”.

The band’s original members, brothers Ian and Roger Lewis have remained consistent in the group, playing bass and guitar, respectively. Other long-term members include keyboardist Bernard “Touter” Harvey, a member since 1973, and drummer Lancelot Hall, who joined during their 1986 reformation. The band’s lineup is completed by singer Trevor “Skatta” Bonnick and lead guitarist Andre Philips.

Their performance at the 3rd Annual Reggae Jam concert held at Oasis Wynwood on Sunday, alongside legendary band The Wailers was met with pleasing cheers from the audience.
