US-based, Jamaican singjay Hoodcelebrityy says her recent series of performances at schools within the Tri-State area was aimed at encouraging youth to aim for the stars.

“I saw it necessary to conduct these series of performances because I feel like kids need to see the future. They need to see these things in their faces and understand that it’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and this could be them as well cause once upon a time I was them,” the Walking Trophy singer told DancehallMag.

Between December 15-17, Hoodcelebrityy made surprise pop-ups to Madiba Prep Middle School for Social Justice and Innovation, The Urban Assembly Harlem, and New York Edge-The Young Women’s Leadership School of Brooklyn.

“The experience visiting these schools and speaking to the students was everything. I really got to see how smart and talented some of these students actually are. I always wanted to perform and speak to students, because that’s an opportunity I wish I had as a student,” she said.

“Growing up we only got to see celebrities perform on tv and only got to feel their energy via television, but never in person. Therefore, getting the opportunity as an artist to speak to students and letting them know I’m no different from them, they could all make it out if they put their mind to their goals. My message to all students is if I could do it so can you, stay consistent,” Hoodcelebrityy added.

IMGAccompanied by DJ Moody, Hoodcelebrityy performed a few of her hits for students and gave them a snippet of her new single Catch It, set to release January 7, 2022.

Immediately after the performance students had the opportunity to ask questions, take pictures and interact with Hoodcelebrityy, whose given name is Tina Pinnock.

She further stated that face-to-face interaction with society’s future leaders is more beneficial than virtual meetings.

“I definitely know that it makes a big difference when artist interact with youngsters face to face because one, they love that and two, they get to really feel your vibe and your energy. Kids are genuine so once love is shown they will always give it back genuinely,” the 30-year-old entertainer continued.

Despite this year’s challenges, one of the biggest being the blow taken by the entertainment industry due to the onslaught of the coronavirus, Hoodcelebrityy remained optimistic. She said it was a time for reflection.

“I think my year was great…Very successful, but also very challenging. I’ve learned so much about myself during COVID, that it’s the simple things that make me happy like taking my bike to the beach to ride around, and just meditate and make my music.”
