A St. Catherine businessman has been charged in connection with the 2019 fatal shooting of female entertainer Keshan.

Charged is 34-year-old Tony Martin of Sharper Lane in Old Harbour, St Catherine.

Martin was charged on Wednesday (December 15) following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions.  Following the ruling, Martin is to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court to answer to the charge of murder.

Initially, Martin told investigators that he was acting in self-defense after being attacked and stabbed by the entertainer.

Keshan, whose real name is Kenneisha Brown, was shot in Old Harbour on July 20, 2019, during a dispute with Martin, a licensed firearm holder.

According to the police, one round was discharged from the firearm which hit Keshan in her upper body.

The entertainer reportedly died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

In an interview with The Star, Keshan’s family shared that the 24-year-old had been in a tumultuous relationship with Martin, her long-time boyfriend. However, things were said to have turned violent after the young entertainer confronted Martin with allegations of infidelity.

“She has been with this guy for some time now,” a relative told the Star in 2019.  “He told her he was no longer with this other woman, which she had believed because he stayed by her house sometimes and vice-versa. But my understanding is that he has been living a double life and was denying both women to each other.”

“Keshan found out he has been doing this and went to see him. He wasn’t at home, and she went to see if he was at the woman’s house, and he was there. They got into a fight and she smashed his car glass, and they continued to fight, and she got shot. He then drove her to the hospital where she died.”

The family of Keshan further said that she was cut down in the prime of her life, as she was making plans to expand into the world of business, with plans underway to open a small business.

Keshan released songs such as Bubble Yu Body, Don’t Lie, Kill or Die and The Goods, which she recorded with incarcerated dancehall star Vybz Kartel.
